Tonight is a Freaking computer nightmare
 

started my day at 9am, onsite to trouble shoot a box we sold a customer (oh, i work for a computer company).

So the OS is Hosed, needs a reload (solaris 10 X86). Unfortunately this box doesnt have a CD/DVD slot, so i cant slap one inthere.

needs to be Net boot/install. Hey, let me use my lap top as the install server, Nope, custom load of the OS craps up teh boot directory.
its now 3pm, i tell the customer, i will build a system and be back tomorrow.

4pm, arrive at office, start os load and then Install server config, 2 more hours. think i typo'd and cant get it to work, 2 more hours.

Its 8pm and I need to start the reload from scratch. get some food, come back 9pm, load is done but system is acting odd. gets worse. then smoke and sparks. fortunately i have one more server.
JOY I get to startover again.
10 pm let the install run , and go to my laptop. It starts to freak out.

What is going on tonight.. Did a butterfly fart in china twice? Are we getting a solar flare bouncing off the moon?

Its 11pm now, and i am going to check the system for progress.
before i have to wait another hour.

Wow, really sucks. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. I hesitate to say this, but hey, in can only get better from here, right?

What did you buy? Specs?

This is why I no longer do support. The mere mention of these things gives me anxiety anymore. 14 years of it and if I see a BOSD on my work laptop I just shut it down and drop it off. You can get really, really , burned out on this stuff. Now I just try and design better systems that let the SA's get more sleep at night.

We have started clustering everything under the sun to give ourselves some breathing space when boxes take a dump.
