medical: What's going around?
Tues, July 3, I get at 7 and have massive, liquid diarrhea. No intake (except for about 16 oz of liquids) or output for the next 24 hrs and I'm in bed trying to die.
Wed, no output, very little input, some soft foods and liquids. No muscle or joint pain as in the day before, no energy. Lots of intestinal gurgling. Thurs, some solid food, more liquids, very little soft output, some gas, but not the painful type. Energy level is way down. Worked 4 hrs and thought I'd worked 12. Fri (today) some output with lots of non painful gas, no energy whatsoever. Stomach has been fine throughout the ordeal. What the hell is this? |
Sounds like a bout of food poisoning, but I am not a doctor.
|
We had the same thing go through (literally) our family last weekend and we all took Imodium and drank Gatorade. In 24 hours, it was gone...
|
Food poisoning usually only lasts 24 hours or so. Before I got married, I made bad food choices...frequently. Who knew egg beaters and cheese went bad?!?
Milt, you've got (or had) a bug. Art is right--keep drinking fluids. |
^^^
I concur, I'm not a doctor but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :) Hope you feel better! |
Clear liquids until your bowels are behaving themselves, progress to bland food as tolerated. Food poisoning or viral, probably gotta ride it out.
|
Do not attemp to fart at any cost for another day or so. The reason needs no explanation!
|
BTDT sorry to hear of your pain...
(Totally selfish question) Where did you eat last weekend? |

I had something similar a few weeks ago, culminated to bad dehydration, massive fatigue from running a 2 day racing event, and ended up in the emergency room. It was just a bug in the system, but added with exhaustion and dehydration seemed a lot worse. Just take it easy and keep doing what you're doing.. |
If that was food poisoning, I'm surprised my stomach wasn't affected. I know what I ate and what to avoid. The question in my mind is the incubation period. If FP is from the evening before, I know the food that caused it and I'm the only one that ate it. If it was viral and took 48 hrs to do the job on me, I got it at a child's BD party on Sun with a lot of little snot noses double dipping the snacks.
So, it could go either way. I was feeling real sick, but I did not relate it to FP. I'm sure there are different kinds. I'm better now, but it was a lousy 4th of July (which happened to be my 25th wedding anniversary :() |
I had the same thing about 3 weeks ago. I thought and still think it was food poisoning. I had it coming out both ends and all liquid. It lasted from early morning till night and I felt like dying for another day. Then it required two more days to even get close to recovery. My system was actually uneasy for 5 days. I swore I'd never eat again and lost some weight (seemed like 30 lbs but probably was 3)
Wife was out of town and being by myself for the duration I came close a couple of times to calling 911 but never did. I think you can tell food poisoning by the taste and dislike for food. The occasional thought, during day 1, of ecoli is what almost made me call 911. My 22nd anniversary was also the 4th. We have always enjoyed that they throw a fireworks show about everywhere on our wedding anniversary. |
Congrats, Burt!
I don't think I had FP. |
Did you thaw any frozen ground beef? There was a large ground beef recall in the western states.

Lower GI viral infection - there are more viruses than we can imagine and new ones evolve every second.

I was carpentry supervisor at the Grand Canyon for five years. Millions of people came through from all over the world. I always kept a bottle of immodium in the medicine cabinet, and would take a dose after the initial bout . Good stuff. The doctor there said water down gatorade 50%.
It really does quicken the recovery. LOL |

Shigelosis. That's going around here.
My recent bout was due to too many martinis though. |
