Which car models do you give a second look?
Besides 911s that is.
Z3 Ms because they are rare in my neck of the woods. Ferraris and Lambos, of course. Surpisingly, I always give British roadsters a second look. I think they're just beautiful, especially the TR6. |
944/951 and 914. Almost anything vintage especially if British or Italian. A particularly nice V8 muscle car, rare to see one. The Portland car scene is pretty dull, see an interesting car maybe once every couple of days.
|
Almost anything 30+ years old is worth a look, limited number of sporty cars here unless you count mustangs and boy racers.

Any vintage, foreign car stands out in my area (Southeast Michigan).

From a distance that Saturn Sky catches my eye then as it gets closer I realize what it is and loose interest quite quickly.
As much as I hate Corvettes, I noticed that the new Z06 also has an amazing stance and looks very exotic from a distance as it gets closer I usually chuckle when I realize its only a vette. Any Generation RX7 will catch my eye, they are becoming rarer on the road. A 3rd Generation sighting is about as common as a air cooler 911 Turbo around these parts maybe even rarer. I seem to know most of the people I see in the 3rd Gen RX7's I see. |
Nothing new...pretty much nothing period. Kind of sad, but the "car guy" flame in me is on pilot light these days. For the life of me, cannot think of a replacement for the 1972 911S, and nothing excites me...even when I bump the admission price to 100K.

My Opinion:
Like: Porsches of all types, 930's being my favorite :). least favor 924 series. Old Dodge Vipers and Mopar muscle: Challengers and Chargers AC Cobras Nice old Camaros All Farrari's OLD Vettes (New ones are nice but just not my style) Old BMW's (Way too many new ones on the road. Every high schooler has them now and remind me of Japanese cars) Lambos are cool. Most older cars 50+ Old Mercedes Benz- up to the 450SL (Nice) Dislike: Japanese Tuners ( ugly, Bizzy, and slow) Japanese aesthetics are just horrible. The new Lotus looks like hell. All new cars in general, they all look the same with there ABS plastic and styrofoam bumpers and silly wings..Dispose-a-car's My 2 cents Bob |

ANY pre wedge TVR will get my attention, I've gone out of my way to turn around follow one to get a better look.
I do a fair amount with the local Ferrari community, so if one goes by, I don't really go nuts, I know if I want to see the car up close, and the owner really enjoys/does things with his car, I'll see it again somewhere. Most classic cars will grab my attention, most anything pre 1960's. |
Aside from all the cars mentioned.
Two modern cars that do it for me, are the Nissan Z, and the Mini Cooper. I think i like the Nissan Z's mostly because they remind me of 911's. |
Rabbit GTIs. Mk1 Sciroccos. FD RX7s. Rally specials: Celica Alltrac, 323GTX, UrQuattro.
|
Almost any euro pre 1990. e30, e21, e28's etc. VW's rabbit, cab's & caddy's. 70's 300 Benz's. 240 Volvo's.
Of course any pre 80's American cars/trucks. I saw a tubbed 57' Bel Air yesterday that was shaking the ground at the stop light. Must have had a huge big block. Full cage but also full interior. Driver was 70+ years old. Good Stuff. |

Is it too late to change my post? She could be in a Suzuki rental car and I give more than a second look! :D |

I always look at the New MINI's too more so because I miss the 2003 JCW MCS I sold to buy my 911. I wish I still had it, but if given the choice like my 911 much better. |
There's an awful lot of cars that should be worth a second look, but aren't, simply because they inundate the market. 350Z's, BMWs, even Corvette's around here just aren't that interesting because SO MANY people are driving them. I used to think Vettes were pretty unique, until I saw 4 of them on a daily commute.
Cars worth stopping to look at? Any Porsche, even a 924/944, just because there are so few of them here. Any air-cooled car -- because anyone who can keep something like that running is worth the respect of a second look. |
What cars make me give a second look?
Basically anything that's a bit on the rarer side. Recently, as in the past week or so, the following got a second look or a thumbs up to the driver by me: - AC Cobra (I don't think it was a kit car, but the real deal) - Lotus Elise/Exige - Pontiac GTO - Vintage VW Beetle - MG roadster There are others, but I can't remember now... Summer seems to bring out the nice cars around here! -Z-man. |
I'll stop and look at any Datsun Z. Also in the past month I've stopped to look at two early 924 2.0's in great condition. Those are rare.
911s (new and old) are everywhere out here. Not so interesting. |

I love the six windows;) |

I notice BMW e30's, I have had 2 and intend to have another. I also see a few Ferrari's Mazeratis and a Lambo near where I live. I always take a second look. |
E30 BMWs
any 930 30 and 40s model American cars/trucks older Toyota FJs unique British roadsters (MGA) top of my list now is a 356 coupe. It has such pretty lines. |
Having had a 944 and 951 I LOVE the look of a well setup and insanely clean 951. That was just a sexy, muscular looking car.
In more modern cars, I always check out G35's - one of very few new cars I could see myself owning. I am intrigued by the Mini Cooper S but I'm too old to own one. I'd look ridiculuous driving one of those. Even I can't believe that I like the CLK 500... but I kinda do! |
I love looking at any old Jag--from the 40's to the 70's with the XKEs as the ultimate, of course. The lines on those cars--jesus but the styling was amazing. +1 on the TR6.
2d look newer car? Lambos. So exotic and unusual. Ford GT too, which looks better, lower, and sounds meaner in person than an article could ever capture. It's also amazing at how easy it is to immediately spot a water-cooled 911--it's almost like a 6th sense. How often do you think you see one but it turns out to be something else? For me, never. JH |
60's era muscle cars, air cooled VWs, and Land Rovers.
|
Ferraris
Bentley GTs 997s Old Camaros Audis (A6s, Coupes, TTs, A8Ls) Triumph TR6s and Healeys Alfa GTVs and Spiders Cars I hate: BIG SUVs (suburbans, yukon XLs, Hummers) Trucks (they started it) BMWs being driven by poor drivers |
hot rods
I like non cookie cutter cars btw 911's are so common here they donot get noticed unless old or poor turbo clones my two best street driven spots a real P3/4 in the grove before the prices went nuts chased that one in a chevy V8 but he drove it like he stold it and simply ran away and a royal bug on sw8st aka cali o-no followed him to the super sub shop to see if it was real, it was, a bugs details are unmistakeable like 36'' alloy wheels, and overall fit and finish quality of the small bits |
I dragged my girlfriend across the parking lot yesterday to look at a Jensen Healey. Don't see too many of those!
|
I always check out Porsches, especially the non-911s. So far I've seen a few 928s and 356s, not too many 944s and not a single 914 this summer. Recently I was watching the MTV "Spider-Man" cartoons, done by computer and noticed something hilarious - their "traffic scroll" has a guards red 911 targa (SC or Carrera) in it; in a 20 second scene, you'll see the same car pass by 4 or 5 times.
I notice BMW Z4s because it's the first time I've owned a car and NOT seen a ton on the road. I've yet to see a Z4 coupe outside a dealership, and I've seen one Z4M Roadster in the flesh. I think the scarcity is why I get so many compliments on mine. I also check out the old Bimmers - saw an gleaming mint E28 on Sunday, and a young girl driving a white E30 cab. |
Every car that was mentioned here I'll be seeing on Saturday at the Pittsburgh Grand Prix. That have an outstanding collection of driven european cars going back a century. Anyone need any pics of certain year/model, let me know.

There are a few cars.....
....I will look at.
Hey Brownie....lots of Z4's in the Toronto area.... I always look at exotics, can't help it. Pcars of all kinds, although I haven't seen a 914 on the road lately. AMG Benz's are cool, I like them, and the CLS is nice. Anything old I will look at too....American, Euro, doesn't matter....I appreciate the restoration, conservation, or custom car nut....I used to like the lines of the BMW's, but all the new angled tail lights seem to have been purchased from Hyundai, and they have lost their curb appeal to me. Aston Martin definitely gets a second look. I'm a bike guy too, so anything non-Harley gets a look - see. As far as SUV's go, I used to like the Peppermobile, and hate the X5, and I find that reversed now.....I like the lines of the X5 and have no time for the Cayenne. |
Anything from 1973 back always catches my eye. I'm starting to get a thing for these 50's retro rodshttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1184098139.jpg
I did purchase one of the new style mustangs. I just thought they were so cool when I first saw it. 2005 GT vert. Very fun car. It got a little suspension work and some brakes, a little boost via it's computer... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1184098325.jpg |
New: Chrysler 300C, Nissan G35, Lotus despite over the top styling, Mini, some New Beetles.
Old: Aircooled VW Type I ('60s era and earlier), buses and pickups (especially double cbs). I like them all lowered just a bit :) Markus '80 SC |
Off the top of my noggin: E 30 M3, M6 shark, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, NSX, 50s era vetts, selected chopped iron, Saab Sonnet, Alfas.
87 blk coupe |
There is a Series 2 E-type Coupe that is slinking around my neighborhood. I have seen it 3 times at night. I always do a double-take.

I just love cars. Anything cool and old, anything rare or expensive, any car tastefully modified. Except for the rental appliances, I really pay attention to most cars. Even if I wouldn't own it, if it is halfway cool it's worth a second look.
|
All 911's
old VW's, bugs & vans cinquecento's (family had one when I was a kid) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1184217949.jpg |
