Shoestrings banned from flights
If the TSA ever gets this, you better get out your flip-flops and slippers.

I normally wear flip flops these days when traveling by commercial aircraft since shoe laces are such a PITA after going through security. it is interesting that I carry a German made pen that has a metal case that will nicely serve a rather lethal weapon when the cap is removed and placed on the end, never been asked to get rid of it and it is w/ me whenever I fly, a rather sturdy piece of equipment.

Banning shoe strings makes more sense than mostof the other inane things they make us do. There is no value to almost any of the insane regulations and body searches and no evidence that it has stopped a single terrorist attack. Richard Reid, after all, made it through with his show bomb and was only stopped by a passenger. The government deliberately makes the security procedure so expensive and cumbersome so that it makes people think they are doing something. Anyone with an ounce of sense and a bit of experience would know that the best way to enhance flying security is the cheapest. 1) increase intelligence sharing 2) develop and follow proven profiles, they do it for drugs, why can't they do it for terroists 3) secure cockpit doors, and 4) armed air marshals. Cost to the public - minimal. Inconvenience factor - nill. Increase in effective protection against hijacking - 100%

I wore a pair of Birkenstock sandal through security and they made me take them off. You could see my FEET for crying out loud.
