Give Peace a Chance...Or Else

http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20070711/cm_uc_crmmax/op_193253

Quote:
"My son's best friend, Jon, who's in the Air Force stationed in New Jersey at Fort Dix/McGuire Air Force Base, was shot by a crazed anti-military white guy on Independence Day and he remains in critical condition. He had been on leave here in Ohio and got back to his home off base and was unpacking stuff from his car when this 22-year-old guy walked up to him and asked him if he lived in the house. When Jon said yes, the guy said 'not any more' and shot him point-blank in the chest. He tried to shoot him again, but his gun jammed. Jonathan made it into the house. The guy then shot himself.

"Turns out the guy left a couple of suicide notes stating how much he hated the military and he wanted to go out making a statement, so he chose to make his statement on Independence Day trying to kill a soldier. We are very worried about our Airman . . . he's like a son to me. He's been to Iraq and Afghanistan on our behalf and then gets shot in his own driveway here in the U.S. by an anti-war, anti-American lunatic. This is gut wrenching."

Now, imagine the scenario flipped: What if a soldier had attempted to murder a peace activist over the holidays in order to "make a statement"? The Times would be holding front-page vigil, and Katie Couric's brow would be furrowed for a week. The yakkity yaks on "The View" would be clucking their tongues about the culture of violence bred by the military — and who knows what Rosie O'Donnell would be dressing her poor child in to exploit the story on her website.

That is particularly sad. Reminds me of Lennon. And you're right about the media coverage.

Although I suspect Moonves and other CBS pooh-bahs are secretly hoping someone will shoot Katie.

The guy said he hates the military. Then some yo-yo tries to pin this on the anti-war anti-American crowd. Sounds like a neo-con spin to me.

Well, since most who serve & protect this country vote Republican, and most who hate the military, like the clintons are liberals, I don't think he is reaching, as proven her, most liberals are hypocrites!! Free speech, only if liberals agree

Gee, Byron..

That statement is such a collage of generalities, I don't know what to make of it.

Dontch'a think that lumping people into neat little categories is a bit puerile? Maybe it's just easier to understand things if people are pigeonholed. Or, I do not see things as clearly as some.

Well Byron I'm going to call you on the broad reaching statements. Just how many veterans and active duty are there in American/world and what are their political affiliations? This is a fact check so share your resources with us.

OK, I live in a military town, and the bases are some of my clients, and many of my other clients have military clients, I have many friends who serve/served. My former business partner is retired a fighter pilot, many of the member at the club I belong too are retired military, and again, almost all are Republican, the fact the gore didn't want their votes to count tell you something too!! I can take you to a few bars and let you conduct a straw poll and you will find out that over 95% will back up what I'm saying.

This is the first I heard of this and it happened days ago.

I can see how it is a huge leap to go from this guy being anti-military to him being anti-war, that is just crazy.

Much more likely that he just really hates the uniforms the Air Force wears. Yeah, that is probably the statement he was going for by killing a soldier on the 4th of July.

One question though, are you just typing mindlessly or do you ponder for a moment first?

I guess you didn't read the whole story.

Byron you're not making any sense. I live less than one mile from Fort Richardson and Elmendorf AFB and my neighborhood is choke full of combat vets, and not just Iraq, active military with no less than two or more tours in Iraq. The bottom line according to most of them is it's their job and they don't really pay that much attention to the politics of it. Heck, some of them don't even know who the secretary of state is. The movement to have Rumsfeld ousted started up here by a group of women whose boyfriends and husband are serving in-country. The Vietnam Veterans of Alaska are opposed to the war in Iraq but support the war on terrorism.
You boys think the Confederacy won the Civil War so what you're saying here doesn't surprise me either. You know, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree....

I did a cursory research of defense contractors in South Carolina, home of war supporter Lindsey Graham and Florida, home of defense vendor Byron.
Byron's liberal bashing and support for the troops emotions is NOT supported by the facts. The facts show huge amounts of tax dollars feeding contractors and vendors that can't meet deadlines and thus are responsible for higher casualty counts in-country.
In the effort to protect our troops from roadside IED's the Army and the Marines entered into sole-source contracts for armored vehicles and up-grade kits. Two company's, one based in SC and the other based in Florida have failed miserably.
The Marines entered into a sole-source with Force Protection of Ladson, S.C., for armored bvehicles. Cost-$416.7 million. This company failed to deliver 98% of the 122 mine-resistent vehicles. In fact, taxpayers had to dig a little deeper into their pockets for an additional $6.7 million so the company could upgrade their production facilities so they could finish building the vehicles. Several hundred American lives could have been saved had these vehicles been delivered as promised. Doesn't sound like support for the troops to me. No wonder Graham supports the war because the defense machinery funds his political campaigns.
A subsidiary of Armor Holdings of Jacksonville, Fla., home to Byron and other support the troops groupys, was late producing crew-protection kits, which are added to vehicles windows and doors and provided others with missing and unusable components. The delays all resulted in increased risk to the lives of our troops. The Marines neglected to collect $6.6 million in late fees because the contractor had cash flow problems.
The source for the information above: The Pentagon Inspector General's, Richard Joliffe, assistant inspector general for acquisition and contract management, report on special vehicles to protect our troops, 2007, part of a report examining $2.2 billion worth of contracts for armored vehicles and kits to upgrade existing vehciles.
The American taxpayer supports our troops we just don't support this war and what it's doing to our troops. Get it?
