Teenage dirtbags and a stolen car.... Insurance question?

Why am I so pissed off? I tell you why - I had lend my car to my cousin until he finds a new one..

Older car stolen from the parking lot of the local commuter railroad. Day two - a local cop we grew up with pulls over these two dirtbags teens in my cousin's stolen car.

Window is busted, suspension is bent, car is all f*#ked up. Car is shot, now worth $75 at the junkyard. $600 in tools stolen out of the trunk. I doubt either of these kids will see jail time for this.

Two questions:

#1: If either of these teens had their own car, or (more likely) was named to their parents auto policy - could an insurance claim be made against them?

#2: If the stolen car was seen at either house of either dirtbag (a generally nice community with nice homes), could an insurance claim be made against the general liability provision of the homeowners insurance??

Just wondering.

Sounds like a question for a lawyer.

Did you lend your cousin a car because his was stolen?
or
Did you lend your cousin a car and it was subsequently stolen?

Either way, tough break. Hope you/your cousin are able to get recourse.

Some punk tried to steal my jetta recently. In my case I wish they had been succesful. Instead, they left me with a VW I couldn't start, the day before I was headed on a 1200 mile trip.

No and no.

The only insurance coverage that will apply is your personal auto insurance that will cover the loss of the vehicle and your homeowner's coverage that will cover the lost personal property in the car. What was $600 in tools doing in the trunk of a car you were loaning to a cousin?

Loaned him a car after his was stolen. Sorry - not clear on that.

He is in the middle of moving (murphy's law at work here someplace) and had been moving stuff in the trunk of his car.
