Mobile 5 phone and pelican

My phone has windows mobile 5 and was able to access the pelican web site with no problems. About 2 or 3 weeks ago something happened and I am no longer able to pull up the pelican pages. It stops loading just after the pelican logo and the hacker safe logo. Wayne says nothing changed on the site. Is anyone else having this problem. I can pull it up if I use opera as the browser but the mobile 5 version of IE doesn't work and that is the one that launches with links in the email.

I've had lots of problems with the Pelican site on my regular PC browsers for a couple of weeks now. Often the site won't load for a couple of minutes and then it starts working again. That's across about 4-5 different PCs using IE or FF. The site seems pretty slow to me most times these days.

I think Wayne turned my speed down since I haven't owned a Porsche in a few years.

Honest, Wayne, I still try to buy from Pelican when I can even though I don't have a Porsche anymore.

Agreed. My Pelican connection has also been very, very slow for a couple of weeks.

Same here. Inconsistent load times. Sometimes great, other times no love at all.

From a variety of places and computers.

Hmm, all these problems occurred at about the time that Wayne and others suggested using Fasterfox and other prefetching tools. I wonder if there is any correlation?

Nope. I have had these problems for a long time. Even now when I am sitting on a 6mb pipe at a major Internet co-location site, PP will just hang.

The problem with the mobile 5 not loading started at about the same time, the problems started loading the site in general. At first I thought it was just that the site was so slow it wasn't loading but now it just stops after the logo.
The problem with the mobile 5 not loading is likely due to the addition of a java or flash script on the forum page. It is not due to the general slow down because I can load it with opera. Now if the the page is down it is down and nothing will load it.
Anyone use their cell phone to access pelican??

I've checked Pelican a few times recently w/ wm5. No problems other than the tiny tiny screen. ;)

island911 07-17-2007 12:27 AM

the problem could be lacking system memory.

Does PP have a Lo-Fi option that I am missing or are you just hitting it full HTML?

No I don't think they have a mobile version. The phone trys to convert the full page to what it can read and display. It was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. About the same time that the others and myself starting seeing a real slowdown in load times and page time outs. It must be something with mobile 5 compatability because I can use opera on the phone and will load the page.

Well I don't know what changed but the mobile 5 browser is working again. There must have been an error on the page and when the database was rebuilt it was corrected. Anyhow it is back working again.

Yep, I didn't get a chance to post this morning. Everything loaded fine on both a WM5 and WM6 Smartphone. And, of course, "everything" is a relative term.
