What were your favorite books as a kid?

There were two classes of books I read in elementary school - Required Reading and Whatever I Picked Up in the Library.

Required Reading:
Where the Red Fern Grows

Library:
Shy Stegasaurus of Cricket Creek (2nd grade or so)
Lion Adventure, African Adventure, Elephant Adventure (Willard Price)

I got way hooked on Dune in junior high - I had my dad bring home a "C" size sheet of grid paper from work so I could track the characters and their relationships to one another as I read along.

the original tom swift series. i also really liked a book called "hot rod" by henry gregor felsen. most of mark twain.
as far as required reading went i seem to recall "cry the beloved country" as well as "the ox-bow incident".

The first real book I ever read was ''The Jungle Book''. I think I was just starting second grade. It was so far beyond the ordinary, and so very real to me.

Early to mid eighties road&track. I can remember staring in awe at 328s, Testarossa's and 911 turbos. The two that really stick out are the first generation M3 and the 911 club sport or CS. Somehow todays R&T is lacking something.

I was into 'anything cars' early on also. There was a book called Four Wheel Drift by a John Galt (or Gault?). He also had a couple of other car books, but I do not recall their titles.

I still peruse flea market booths with old books, looking to find one of his, and especially that one.

My favorite book as a kid was "Go Dog, Go."

(Come to think of it, it's still my favorite!)

I remember that my Grandma used to read to me if I went to stop with her on weekends when I was young. She had a lot of books that were my Father's when he was a kid. My favorite was a big cloth bound book "The Legends of King Arthur", and I always thought it was very special as it was one of the only books there that had a few color pictures on the inserted glossy pages.
When she passed away there were very few things I wanted from the house. None of it was of any real value except maybe the Grandfather clock that I could always hear tick-tocking away downstairs as I lay in bed and drifted off to sleep. Needless to say "The Legends of King Arthur" now sits in my bookcase.
