reproduction spyder
Last thread I post for awhile. Maybe it the meds I'm on for this weekend. Ive been posting up a storm...
This car looks amazing. http://automotivelegends.com/ |
very, VERY sweet. If I lived in Cali where it never rains, I'd drive that to work everyday.
|
Reminds me last year at the Monterey historics I took a drive up California 1. Probably the best road in all of North America. Anyways I saw spyder just tearing it up I mean he must have been traveling 50 in a 30. I can remember thinking what a large pocketbook he must have to take such risk. Im now wondering if it wasn't one of these.
|
Nice color combo. Seems like it is alittle high though.
|
I love 550 replicas. Lots of wacky options for engines too... my dream 550 replica would have a 2.0 911 engine. Hmm... or a 1.9TDi.
One funny detail that drives me bonkers is wheels. I just can't handle them on 4 bolt VW wheels. Maybe it would be OK with certain EMPIs or mag wheels, but not steelies. |
too high price.
|
They are a lot of fun and get loads of attention. Just dont wind up under a F-250!
|
That's ironic. Last year I too was driving up to the monterey historics and stopped at the famed intersection where james Dean was killed in one of those cars. I'd love to have one but not for the street. Too low for other drivers to see you, no protection in a crash, and fast enuogh to get you into trouble.
On the track it would be a blast but on the street I'd be nervous as a whore in church. i can't imagine it would be that fun if I spent all my time dodging SUVs and other cars that would look huge compared to a spider. |
You say "fast enough to get you in trouble" like its a bad thing! :D
I've driven ours thru Oregon, Nevada, California and Arizona. Driven it to Los Angeles twice (ok that did suck). When you drive these, drive them with "motorcycle" mindset. Everyone is out to get you - drive accordingly. angelahttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1185202800.jpg |
Not much worse than a 914 if you ask me, almost got a Beck Spyder when I got the 914. Concern about registering a kit car in California made me shy away.
|
Ah yes, California, land of the SB100!! States vary on registering these, but California is the known PITA. Many other states, including Oregon, are far more friendly to replica cars.

the blue 550 seems to have almost every conceivable option added, and probably will not meet reserve until into the 40k+ region.
i have a beck spyder and love it. it does make me feel a bit vulnerable, but it's worth it to me. i just wish i could have the bits and pieces on angelas car. |
Agree - the reserve on this is probably well into the 40's. Lots of extras on that car.
Type 1 turnkeys are about 25K out the door, subie turnkeys start at 35K and like anything else, just a matter of how much stuff you want to add on top... The Thunder Ranch guys tell me that the won't do a turnkey 911 engined car for under 55K.... Way outta our price range. Good thing we had a sawzall and a busted down 911 laying around when we built our car! angela |
5 days left and already at nearly 30k.
|
What do you guys think of the 550 "coupe" that is on their company website??
Cheers |
should be hot and very noisy inside.
