Photoshop help needed
 

I hope someone here can help with this. I need directions on how to "organically" fade out the edges of this East India Trading logo.

this will be screenprinted as part of a larger design and I need it to blend with the shirt and other design elements.

What tools, steps, processes should I use?

Assuming that you don’t have any elaborate photo software, there may be a way to achieve what you want with
MS Paint. Its in your “Accessories” directory. See my photo attached.

Is this an acceptable way to fade your logo on a particular background? There are many ways, but this is easy and you have the software. You Operating System is Microsoft correct?

If this is acceptable, this is how you can do it.

Open Paint

Copy and paste your background in Paint .
Copy and paste your logo on the background where desired.

Go to the tool box on your left and select the “Eyedropper”. This tool extracts the exact hue (color) from your picture.
Drag to an area and click. You have saved that hue from your background.
Go to the toolbox and select the “Spray-paint Can”
You can now Spray-paint the exact hue from your background and fade your logo in. It will spread the color
like you are aerosolize it. You can also brush it in with the “Painbrush” too. I like the spray-can for what
you want to do.


This works great with photos too. Like morphing different faces on other different heads..

Not sure I understand "oraganically".

Along these lines?

If you want to do it non destructively.

Add a layer mask, option "reveal all"

Draw a lose freehand selection around the image.

Feather it (depending on actual filesize, 20 used here) then invert selection and fill black.

Invert image, use airbrush tool to spray black around the outside edges where you want it to fade, and then invert again.

What program? You can do that in Paint also. There are much better programs than Paint but if it works, what the hey..

If you do use Paint save as a .jpg. (Smaller file)

Layer option works with airbrush as well.

Add layer mask, reveal all.

Spray black on mask.

The layer mask option in photoshop is the way to go.
You can add/subtract/tweak all day long without hurting the original image.

Thanks Everyone, much appreciated. Robert, I am using Photoshop with a Mac, so don't have paint, but thank you for the description, looks good. Scott, that's pretty much it, thank you. The mask is what I need more than anything. I also did a quick test playing with inverting, brightness and contrast to come up with nice black outlines and "dirty scuffs", then knocked out the white. Not sure what I'm going to do for final and it's context in the design.

With teh server down, went ahead and started on another. Still need to get the swords in the same design as the headstone or take them out entirely. not sure. it's a whole shirt image.

edges are pretty clean,
you can magic wand, invert, paste on anything you want

hey Thanks Stijn! looks really good. Hope to put something together with it tonight.

For future reference, what you needed was 'outlining' which is quite different from 'organically fading out' edges.

thanks Bill. I wanted the fade originally, and may still use it, but Stijn's badge is also nice. May end up using both.
