Cool Hotel recommendation for San Diego?

I'm thinking of going down to S.D. for a short vacation in November/December to see a show at the Natural History Museum.

I did a search with the usual suspects traveocity, hotels.com, expedia, etc. and the number of hotels is mind boggling.

Anyone have hotel recommendations? Biggest requirement is that it be quite because I am a very light sleeper and no more than $200 a night, the closer to $100 the better.

Scott,
I'm cuurently in Coronado--just over the bridge--staying at the la Avenieda right across from the Del Coronado. We're paying around $170 but you have the beach a block away. The Del--what a racket--it's like an outdoor mall for hell sakes. Off to a wedding...
Christian.

We stayed at the Hotel Del several years ago in the "haunted room" which was super. We got the stay at our annual San Deigo PCA banquet. In the winter time the beach might not be the best place to stay so you can look at hotels such as the U.S. Grant downtown. That is right next to the Gaslamp area and close to the USS Midway museum and Seaport Village.

Stay away from the Town & Country. Wife and I were just there for Porsche Parade. The grounds are really nice and a couple of the restauraunts are good, but for the most part the rooms suck as does the hotel management.

Are you going to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit? We found it a bit disappointing. Looking forward to the Pompeii exhibit next year.

Yeah, going to see the Dead sea Scrolls...

I would like to be walking distance to the Gas lamp district so I can check out the live music at night, so far the Holiday Inn downtown on 7th is looking pretty good.

John, I will check out U.S. Grant.

Thanks all,
