We have and 8 hour rule up here for ATC. But, we are still resposible (legally) under the priveledge of our liscence to not report for duty if we are not medically fit. So you could meet the 8 hour rule but still be intoxicated and therefore would be breaking the law if you reported for duty.

I remember seeing pics on the internet of a America West 737 cockpit that had beer taps for throttles, it was a funny pic at the time............

What is wrong with having a few drinks with friends the night before you strap yourself into a bomb, all the while knowing that tomorrow could be your last day. All the shuttle accidents that killed those heroic crew members had nothing to do with alcohol. Just media beat-up bull**** at it again.
