Old-E, I think you're correct on 8 gallons. I cut an pasted from a Google search.

Even second tier drag racing is impressive. This is a 3000# Mustang that once really was a mustang, on a 10.5W X 33 tire, on gasoline. Turbos rock. Lynch at Pinks. The cute blond is his wife. The big burly dude is Steve Petty, the guy who makes the car go fast. The guy at the end is Tim.

Dunno about other tracks, but here in Gainesville for the gatornationals they have a few AM radio stations that broadcast all sorts of stuff from the track...

Most drag events have their own radio frequency. Whenever I run my car (street legal, nothing fast), we can tune to an am station and get notices of when it's our turn to get into the staging lanes. Makes things simple when there's hundreds of cars wanting to run.

I've been considering taking my son to an NHRA event at Heartland Park, he enjoys racing and cars of all kinds. You all just convinced me.

Interesting... Am I to understand from this that that plume of acrid fumes is from the change-over of fuels? It was like getting pepper-sprayed at close range - had me wondering how anybody on the grid could even get close to them!

Most teams start the cars on gasoline. That's what's in the squirt bottle. Once running, they turn on the fuel pump. That's when all your mucus membrane catches fire. Apparently some people aren't as affected by the fumes.

You MUST see and hear these cars at least once. Same with your son. Beyond words. You will see.

And yeah, nitromethane does not soothe sinuses. Nope.

I'm bringing my wife to this years US Nationals in Indianapolis on friday Aug 30. It's a friday night and she has never been to a drag race before. Boy will she be amazed. It's the best money to any race you can buy.

Be sure to bring her some muffs AND plugs. Both are better than either by itself. Nothing ruins it faster than someone who can't take the noise.

Going on Friday is a good idea. When our little gang went to Pomona every year in the 80's, it was often on a Thursday for qualifying. Smaller crowds mean more fun and the cars go just as fast.

Sunday finals is one of standing in lines. Either the line to get beer, or the line to give the beer back. ;)
