Smile Children's Orphanage donations.

I'm headed back down to Central America and Honduras last week of August, and was interested in any old VHS tapes or DVD's of children movies that your kids may have out-grown or don't watch anymore. Small light weight picture books or toys would be great too.

My wife and I will be visiting the local orphanage and children's home bringing them medical supplies, toys and educational gifts.

You can see their wish list of items is simple and basic, things we take for granted, rulers, pens, crayons.

Bank of America will also match our funds raised, and your contributions are tax deductible!

You can mail any donation funds to myself, contribute to the childrens home fund directly on their website, or mail movies/books to me at:

Roatan Childrens Home
P.O. Box 1369
Sultan, WA 98294

A BIG HUG AND THANK YOU

Dave

Dave,

I will ask the wife to put a package together. How much stuff is too much?

Thanks for the heads-up, I took a look at the website.

I like charities like this. They are small, community-based and understand the day-to-day needs of the locals.

I just helped a friend clean out her basement. Sad to see that list, and to think about all the stuff we threw out... such a wasteful culture.

I'm going to try and squeeze in what we can in an extra checked bag or two, but can freight it down there too, so don't go over-board, but send what you can.

Last year when I did this, I raise almost $600 putting on a chili-dog feed at work and just asked for donations. Many good people out there willing to help, and I thank you all for whatever you can give in money or gifts. Heck, even bandaids and neosporin is like gold to these people.

I've given balloons to kids, that have never seen one before, and the way their eyes light up really touches the soul.

Heck, send me balloons too, stuff like that, easy to pack and light weight.

I've got some very nice PM's from people thanking me and it makes me feel great inside being able to help out those less fortunate, especially innocent children.

What if I picked up the freight to have stuff shipped to wherever you are staying?

Thanks for the offer of freighting stuff down, the resort has a link on their webpage on how to donate items / money.

The resort "Cocoview" has a close relationship with the Childrens fund and people pack extra items like I'm doing to donate to the kids all the time.

Cocoview is an awesome scuba dive resort, last time I was there I got in 19 scuba dives in 5.5 days. CHEAP place to stay too, at only $800-900 per person for 7 nights in an over the water cabana, your 3 meals a day, and unlimited scuba diving, ALL THAT for only about $130 bucks a day, you can't beat this price if you're a scuba diver.

Childrens link on bottom right of website. They have a good chat room forum too that discusses the children home.
