Thinking of Selling the 428 SCJ
Since PWD sold his beloved 72S I have been edging ever closer to putting my 69 Mustang Mach 1 428SCJ, R Code car up for sale. Triple Black in that model was a Special Order. I have the Marti Report and orginal Black CA License Plate still on the car.
I have driven the car less than 5000 miles since the car had a GROUND UP Mechanical restoration. The Motor is Built to the Hilt and the Suspension is Global West with 4 wheel discs to make it more modern. The only thing I didn't do was repaint the car. It shows well enough but is not perfect. What holds me back is what kind of price should I ask and the fact I hate lookie lou tire kickers who are gona be nitpicking the car. Also I have that completly orginal Ford 427 Center Oiler with a STANDARD BORE to sell as well. With the price of a SOHC motor at nearly 50K the 427 I have should be worth in the hood of 25K or so... With some of that money I could then restore my 69 S. ![]() ![]()

Tabby there is a difference between you & I that you should perhaps consider. I'm not saying this to denigrate you in any way. Price wasn't really a major factor when I "sold" my car to Evren. I was completely fed up with the area "clubs scene", and I'd known for quite some time that I wanted Evren to have the car...
If it was money alone I was after? I could have sold to one of those that know the price of everything, the value of nothing...then I'd have also kept the spares, the books, etc...and sold them off piecemeal. But then, I never was in the P-car scene for the money...

Tabs, how's the old Mustang club scene in Vegas?
If it's bad, I can't see how you have any choice but to sell your car. |

Anybody who gets into old cars and isn't a Dealer or Pet it and sell guy..like Curtiss AA isn't going to be making any money on these things unless they keep them forever. So it is more because you like to do it than the money.
However when your dealing with a car that is worth many thousands of $$$, one has to keep an eye on the money end of things. That is only being fiscally responsible. For PWD the Porsches also meant a Social outlet. I could care less about the Social end of Car Clubs. When I get in the car and drive it, the club isn't in the car with me, its the road, machine and me...the enjoyment of driving that paticular kind of ride. If this Board didn't represent such a diverse group of generally sophisticated people I would have been a long gone daddy.

There is a soft spot in my heart when it comes to early Porsches...it harkens back to my youth when my Daddy and I used to fk around with Porsches. I just love the drop-head 356s and early 911S models, and would rather have one of those than any American Muscle car out there.

As I said on another board...I'd have crushed the car before I'd have sold it to you, the. You see, $150K one way or another wouldn't put a dent or a gain in my lifestyle. So, the money Evren paid? Not important...what is important is that I passed the car on to someone I like, someone who will hopefully enjoy it as mjuch as I used to. The last year I drove the car, I all too often found myself not enjoying it...so, time to move on. Tabby, it wasn't totally the clubs scene...My joy with the car was in a different era...different times, different attitudes.

I wouldn't sell it tabs. I still have my 66 and probably haven't put 500 miles on it in the past 6 years. Like pwd, it isn't the money (which wouldn't be much anyways). If you are feeling the itch, sell the 427 SOHC. Then use that money to start the rebuild on the 69 S.
I like the GW suspension and am thinking of doing it on the front of my 66.... |

Search the S registry board...I don't go there anymore. I will admit, over there, I didn't specifically mention "the"...nope. I'm just referencing all who know the price of everything, the value of zilch...

Don't sell it. To this day I regret selling my 64 1/2 with 260V8.
the SJC seems like a car that fits you better than the S anyway, but if you must restore it, sell a few rugs, spoons and guns, but don't sell the SCJ.

My buddy and I restored a 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR convertible (318 made) in 1980 to help pay for college. I believe it went for $18,000. I wonder what it would sell for today? If you're not driving the car, sell it to someone who will drive it and take care of it (IMHO).
