I am a enthusiast of the REAL PORSCHES not the overblown, pimped out cars they have been manufacturing since 1973. In my unhumble opinion I personally think ANY Porsche past 1973 isn't worth a warm bucket of spit. They simply have become BORING.
The 1973 911RS was the pinacle of Porsche developement with exception of some of the exotics 959 et all. None of them have ever exceeded the overall performance of the RS unless you attached some kind of geegaw Turboooo to it....... all they have ever been able to do is warm them over and sell them to the gullible public. And the Front engine cars......U don't see them around anymore do U.......... like the dinosauers they're Extinct thats spelled capital E small x small t small i small n small c small t. They were a BAD IDEA to begin with. He!! my watch costs more than they do now on the used market. Now for practicality sake give me a nice 1969 through 1973 911S. They are best piece of automotive machinery ever built. But for simple LOVE of beauty on 4 wheels it's the 1950's Speedsters that has captured my heart. With such a beautifully shaped body U can throw away your prescription for Viagra. Now I could be wrong but I'm not..... I am not trying to insult anybody here but U guys are just gona have to understand that sometimes I may slip when I am trying to enlighten people.....cause you see I am very intelligent and I am well simply intellectually superior to eveybody except 1 or 2 percent of the population. I just hope I am not ostracized nor perscuted for being intelligent and stating the facts as they are. Human history is rife with examples of people being put to the stake for being ahead of their time. Last edited by tabs52; 11-01-2002 at 05:35 AM.. |

Yeah, it may be too late for you. Your reputation preceeds you, you know. Let's just hope it doesn't happen to any other proggessive 1973 911 owners. They are so few. . . especially the ones whom are enlightened and intelligent enough to be throwing their Viaga out the window of a 1956 550. |

That's a steep claim: do you have any numbers to back that up? BTW: in DE events, I have no problem passing 911's of YOUR vintage with my NON-TURBO 944S2. On the straights, even in the corners. Quote:
Most DE's I attend have their fair amount of the 924/944/968 and even 928 series cars. Almost 1/2 of the cars there are front engined Porsches. And if you wish to see more 944's on the track, there are currently two 944-model specific race events going on in the US: the 944 Cup series and the 944 Spec series. How many early 911-specific series are going on today? None, last time I checked. Quote:

Oh, and by the way, it was not I who locked down your previous thread. I gave you a warning, that's all. So here's the deal TABS52: I would really, really appreciate it if you showed a little respect around here and stop this unprovoked and uncalled for bashing of other cars. We know that you like the early 911's, and that you dislike ALL other models. FINE. Now let it be. This trash talk is not allowed here, and will not get you anywhere by writing what your write. Don't forget, it is your opinion, and not a FACT that the early 911 is the best Porsche made. I suggest you expand your intelligence with some more knowledge. Visit the bookstore or library and do a little reading up on cars before making such blanket claims. -Zoltan.

Rhetoric
Dear Zoltan my experience with Porsches goes back over 30 years. I sorely do Love the early 911S's I think there was a purity of line, form and purpose to the early cars that was lost on the later cars. Whether it be Federal Laws or Porsches target markets for their various cars. After 1973 I lost interest and gradually stopped following the specfics of what Porsche manufactured. Porsche has always made an excellent product, some are just better ideas or have better executition than others.
As a point of History Porsche planned to stop production on the 911 in 1978 or so. Their feeling was that it had reached the pinacle of development, and was to be replaced with the 928. But the Porsche fraternity wouldn't let it die. And till this day no matter what the refinement the car is still working within the basic constraints of the 911 design. Which speaks volumes for the Greatness of the design. Zoltan my son, I never said intelligence had anything to do with maturity or common sense, they are mutually exclusive. I had that clearly in mind when I wrote it. I just chose a paticular point of view on a spectrum of points of view and wrote it in that tone of voice. If you go to the link I provided and read the piece I wrote for the Registry you will see another point of view or in this case shade of view on the spectrum. However in that piece there is an idea which I put there to creat doubt in the mind of the reader, and the rest of the piece while containing other points that I wanted to get across was essentially built as a structure to get that one idea across. So I guess the point of telling U this is that I am pretty clear about what I write and why, but like all people I do make mistakes and misjudge things from time to time.

OK Dr,... I don't ****ing like you and anyone else that thinks like you. You are an ******* and not many people like you. The only people that could possibly befriend you, think like you, therefore they fall onto my list of people most hated. If I could rid of people like you I would. The world would be a much better place. Your kind only knows how to bring other people down and one day you will pay for that! Hows that for a nickel *****!

If you don't know why that just proves that you are what I hate the most. You wont know because you are blind of your own thoughts and actions. You can try and figure it out if you like, just dont hold your breath,... no wait, hold your breath
That'll be ONE down and THOUSANDS to go!

Many reasons why you are wrong:
1) I see front-engined porsches all the time. More than 911s, as a matter of fact. 2) You cite the 959 as an exception to the rule. How is this car not "pimped out," but others, such as bare-boned 993 RSs or 968 ClubSports are? 3) the early 911s are PRACTICAL? Hello? 4) You're right, the 50s Speedsters are beautiful... but then, so are the Boxsters, the 993 Turbos, the 911 Speedsters, the 944s, the 928s... 5) No Porsche has ever eclipsed the performance of the 2.7RS? Are you sure that claim will hold up in court? In 1964, many owners said that the only real Porsches are 356s and 550s. In 1974, real Porsches were anything before the impact bumper. The 914 was dismissed... as was anything front engined... now, more or less all the initially controversial Porsches are accepted... ... could this post be a hoax, some sort of wry and subtle sarcasm, a way to show us that we should be accepting of all Porsches, whether it be a rear-engined coupe or a front-engined SUV? Or is the poster just THAT clueless?

OH MY GOD! this guy is freaking hilarious!!! i love it!!! i'm gonna quote this dude on another website because it's just sooo priceless!!! i love it! first he throws down some garbage which sounds like he's been thoroughly convinced of what he's been saying, but his ego is too inflated to keep it all to himself! this is great! it's like he's living in his own little Porsche turtle-shell of beliefs. actaully, the more I think of it, it's like a big grumpy bear that's just awaken from hibernation. this is just great!!! ![]() this dude is just the sort of thing i need to quote when somone says "i've never met one of those snotty Porsche 911 owners. what are they like?" it further reinforces the belief that drivers of old 911s are among the most egocentric of all Porsche owners. the proof is in this pudding. i'm bookmarking this guy! if i had my radio show still, i'd ask to get some recordings from him made for giggles. keep it up dude. the entertainment value of your rants has already exceeded the value of the time wasted reading it! obin

.check this out, i wrote it on another site. it fits this discussion perfectly: ----as a Porsche enthusiast, i'd be lying if i honestly said that every Porsche owner is friendly. though the vast majority i run across are great people, there's a rotton 5% that makes the other 95% look bad. arrogant? the most arrogant car "enthusiast" people i've met are the old Porsche air-cooled bunch that takes themselves too seriously. this is only about 1 in every 20 if not 30 early-911 owners that makes themselves out to be such a snob that it's almost embarrassing to admit that i own a Porsche, so that i don't get confused with this bunch. don't get me wrong, there's arrogant water-cooled Porsche owners also, but not to the same level i find with the owners of the 1960s-1970s 911s. again, this is only a tiny minority of those 911 owners, as the VAST majority of them i find to be some of the greatest car enthusiasts i've met. a few friends and i sat down and really thought it out one day to figure out where the arrogance comes from. we figured this out: i've owned Porsches and Mercedes but i can care less if they said Ford, Dodge, VW, Bentley, or Matra on the hood. it's all about fun, having fun, and enjoying owning the car. there are people who have low self esteem and they seem to notice that some sports car owners have high self esteem. they figure that by buying a sports car with a "presigious" mark, people will treat them differently. these people learn that Porsches (notably the older 911) are some of the most recognizable sports cars in the world, especially the 911. the 911 has been a reference standard sports car for years. it's not the fastest, the most nimble, or the most reliable. it's just a yardstick that everyone recognizes. true enough if you say "it's faster than a 911 and handles 10 times better" people will relate better than "it's faster than a Datsun 240Z and handles better than a DeTomaso Mangusta". 911s used to be expensive cars that required expensive labor. it became in vogue a while back to say "my Porsche is at the shop getting some work done" because it sounded like you were one of those jet-setters who was modifying their car for insane horsepower and you didn't have time to be bothered with fixing it because you were too busy managing your multi-million dollar enterprise. well, somewhere over the years, the rest of the cars out there got up to the level of the old 911s and flew way past them. a new Integra Type R will run circles around any 1970s 911. my 944 will outaccelerate and out-handle and old 911, for that matter my Scirocco 16V could too. but what happens when someone just spent $15,000 for a 20 or 30 year old car and expected to get the best in the world and they come up short when a GTI with a 1.8 litre engine shoots past them in the corners and the straights? they say "well, that's just a piece of junk, my car is refined". what happens when a $5,000 924 turbo with an intercooler laps them at the track? they respond with "that's not a real Porsche" because they won't for one moment concede that Porsche made better cars than theirs. what happens when a Fox body Mustang does everything their 911 can do.. 10 times better? they say "that's a piece of American junk with no style" because again they won't admit that their car was overpriced performance compared to the Mustang. again, i'm not saying that all of these old 91 guys are arrogant, but it is that small minority that is overly vocal about their cars that really, honestly, and truly gives all Porsche owners a bad name. they are just unrealistic about their purchase and don't want to admit that in the past 30 years, technology has made a Ford Focus a better performer than their old "european exotic". buy a car because you like it. but when you cop a "mightier than thou" attitude... someone is going to point out that you don't have the best wheels on the block. be realistic, rather than arrogant about your car because arrogance won't get you anywhere in life. --- obin

"Zoltan my son, I never said intelligence had anything to do with maturity or common sense, they are mutually exclusive. "
Should someone point out to him that intelligence also has very little to do with personal taste? This guy reminds me of Hannibal Lecter (in the Thomas Harris books, not in the movies)... he absolutely has to make himself look smarter than his adversary at every turn, even though he is twisting around the truth. Actually, he is exactly like Aristotole... or rather Aristotole as the philosopher is discussed by author Robert Pirsig in ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE: he uses "facts" that are distortions of the truth in order to further his argument. It makes no difference to him that his argument has huge holes in logic. And, yes, I realize that the last paragraph was pretentous and esoterically literary. I just wanted to deflate any ideas that Tabs might have about 944 owners being unintelligent.

How would you expect to be accepted?
One of your first posts insults a good majority of the members of the board, insinuating that they are unintelligent for driving any Porsche newer than 1973. Did you honestly expect to be welcomed with open arms?
