The deer correctly surmised that the safest place for it was right in front of the hunter. As long as he was shooting at it, the deer was safe.

I think this is a case of not having his scope zeroed.

I thought he kept shooting farther to the left with each shot. Considering how close he was you would have thought that with the third shot he would have realized he wasn't aiming at what he thought and aimed for center mass instead of the heart.

Looks like he indeed was aiming for the center of Massachusetts. I wonder what state he was shooting from?

I think the deer is a lot smarter than we give it credit for. It's probably met this guy before and was just taunting him.
