Saw my first Audi R8

Wow,

I heard a strange rumble in the parking lot of the local grocery store. Looking for the cause, found the new to be released Audi R8. Sweet looking ride, and a phenomenal sound.

Everyone in the parking lot stopped what they were doing and simply watched the car drive by.

I must live near an Audi Executive. I saw the A5 with in 5 hours after I got it on the cover of Autoweek, at the local hardware store.

Cheers,

Mike

Saw one in San Diego outside the Hyatt over the weekend. No one was paying attention to it. But then again, the place was crawling with comic book geeks.

But then a red Ferrari F355 pulled into the lot, and everyone paid attention to that.

I am happy that I get to see the new Audi's before (After magazines) the typical public does.

The R8 is SWEET!!! I tried to follow but was on the phone with my brother when I saw it again. It might be me but have yet to figure out the on the phone and see a not yet released car snap a picture.

Cheers,

And the R8 has already appeared in many car magazines. It's a cool car, but if I wanted a supercar, more than likely it'd be the one I have now.

Sorry, but I just don't get fazed by any of the super cars. They are all over the place here. OK, I do get fazed, it really sucks when you see a teen or twenty-something driving.

What color was it? I get the feeling that everyone that has seen the Audi in the states is the same car. Did it have a burgundy interior and was it a dark grey/black exterior?

Did it look like this one?

I saw that one too, in front of the Omni. It was silver, yes? I liked the one we saw on Mulholland more. Someting about the color.

Yes, I was at Comic-Con, but only because I'm dating a girl that's really into it. I don't even like superheros!

Well being in LA we are spoiled when it comes to exotics and new stuff. There is a black on burgundy one cruising pasadena, white on navy as well. If you know the area there is a private garage on green street just between pasadena ave and de lacey, werks bros. garage, some fun stuff in there if you ever catch the doors open. D types, E types, old ferraris, 356's, bla bla bla. Someone needs to tell that poor girl that those silly boots went out years ago, plus how cold does it ever get in la? If any of you local guys are into classic amurican muskle let me know, two of my friends have some monsters, a 69 509 camaro and a shelby gt500 steel widebody, one of two ever built, a detomaso pantera, lambo muira sv, gt3 mkII, CGT, gt3 mkIII rs, xj220, macca f1, slr vision, 430's, 360's. all that kinda stuff is all over my neighborhood.

I saw the R8 parked next to a new Z06, it made the chevy look plump to be nice, its such a great looking little car, if only i could afford one.....

I saw one yesterday. That stainless steel "blade" looks just as silly in person as it does in the magazine's photographs.

In person the snout looks long - I was thinking aardvark... I thought the pictures made it look better.

There's an audi test program in florida - they will caravan all kinds of cars here before being released to the public. Pretty neat - and yes, it has a nice exhaust note -

Saw a silvery blue (or is that bluish silver?) one about a month ago at a German car show in Boston. It had dealer plates, and already a quarter-sized dent on the front hood.

HAHA - Hey I wouldn't kick one out of bed for eating crackers - but did think the proportions on the front were a little out of whack.

I have read that performance wise they are way up the food change - I'd love to have one to abuse for the weekend.

Audi built the car with the 911 square in their sights - I wonder what will happen now that Porsche upped their stake in VW (and Audi) and what will happen to the R8. I also read that they will bring out a lighter smallver version R4 that may be based on the Boxster/Cayman chassis.

I would love to see a lighter cayman type with a hot rod engine - 2200 lbs and 400hp please.

Seen a few around, they do nothing for me... but if someone let me borrow one for a weekend I wouldn't have any objections.

Does anyone else think that the panel painted a different color behind the doors makes it look like it was in an accident and the paint wasn't matched well?

+1 - it's a nice car but the silver applique' is just silly looking imo. It looks better dark as on the car pictured, but what's the point? Reminds me of the worst of the 50's "styling" excesses.

Both the Audi R8 and Q5 are featured in the movie "Iron Man" with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow.
