When the Ampersand is Strong
Just got an e-mail from a coworker. I've worked with him for five years. He is the definition of calm and reasoned. He never raises his voice, he never gets upset, he always works through problems and treats everyone with respect.
His e-mail references all the "#**(@&# documentation" we produce. This caused me some pause. This is pretty strong stuff coming from this guy. |
Sounds like he's extremely frustrated and wants you to know. Can you do anything about it? Perhaps just lending an ear would help? I had a coworker like that at Ford and he blew off steam once in awhile and I just needed to hear him and let him vent and he was OK...

I've been venting for over 25 years... I'm beginning to think that it's not helping :)

Unfortunately, his issues are with something I have no control over and little knowledge of. But I will certainly listen to his concerns.

Invest in some kevlar while you're at it.

Does he want you to fix the issue, or is just that he feels comfortable enough to vent to you and is just blowing off steam?
Part of my job includes training marketing folks to use a horrible 25 page template to make website changes. They often b***h and moan about it, but I've come to recognize it's because they know and trust me. They NEVER complain to my counterparts. |
Go talk to him, let him blow off steam. When he snaps and goes on a rampage, maybe you will be spared.:D
|
Fortunately, he is in a different state so there is no threat of physical harm.
And yes, he was just venting. I was just shocked to hear it from him. |
