They have to be had for under $3k and the quirkier the better.

1. Isuzu Impulse RS turbo - Lotus suspension, AWD, and turbo
2. Pre 90' Celica All Trac - AWD, MR2 turbo
3. Nissan 200sx turbo - RWD, turbo
4. Dodge Omni GLH turbo
5. Mitsubishi Starion

I've never been a big Vdub fan. Always thought them to be a bit feminine and under powered. But to each his own.

My old Corrado VR6 would have changed your mind.
Cams, big valve head, overbore pistons etc...

+1 on the Corrado VR6 (I had a 92 and was fun to drive)

I'll vote for a Fiat X1/9. My brother had one, it was a little too small for my legs but it was like driving a go cart. The steering wheel sits between your knees. Not real fast but when you're that low to the ground with the top off, it feels faster than it really is. And you'll definitely get the looks/laughs etc...
