My 16 y.o. step dtr is living her dream in NYC

My step dtr landed an internship with an ad agency in NY with the help of her uncle. He also arranged for a few interviews with modeling agencies.

She left this past weekend, started her internship on Monday. On Tuesday she went on her first interview. By 4:00 pm she signed with Jantzen and is starting a 4 day shoot today for their 2008 swimwear line. $1200/day.

Fortunately protective uncle is overseeing all this. More importantly, she is keeping it in perspective in that she realizes this may be a one time flash in the pan.

Ahhh...to be young again.

Oh yeah...her twin sister and I went dirt bike riding this weekend. She could care less about glamour

Yes, a 16-year-old definitely needs adult supervision on this -- it's dangerous territory.

My little sis (Miss Ohio 1996), did the whole "live in NY for a few summers" thing when she was around 10-12 working for the Ford modeling agency as a child model. My mother loved it (I think dad loved it too as he had a couple summers to relax without mom). Once she started looking like a teenager, the jobs became fewer due to more competition and it was not worth staying out there for the summers paying high dollar for a crap apartment.

I visited them for a few days one summer and could not stand the thought of "living" in that smelly crap hole (for some reason mom and sis loved it though....I don't get it). I swear the place (especially the subways) smelled like urine and a garbage dump.

New York smells bad enough at ground-level to me. I've never been down to the subways.

Walk into any well used Porta-potti on a hot humid day. Take a deep whiff.

Thats the subway on a good day.

Dueller, keep close watch on that girl!! Lots of scumb#ags in that business.

It's not "smelled like urine" -- it's smelled from urine.

When people pee in the streets, it smells like pee.

Might be true, but I was truly shocked at the smell I experienced in most of Manhatten. I am guessing the locals must just get used to it? I have been in other big cities (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland) and they did not have this type of odor. Is it truly from bums pissing in the streets and on the subways, or is it garbage related?

There was also alot of garbage laying around, but this was some time ago and I heard it is cleaner now. Still.... I do not ever plan on returning (at least as part of a vacation). Hog farms are indeed smelly, but thankfully I do not live on or near one.

Yeah...she's already complained about the subways....she's a bit of a prima donna as she thinks riding in a cab is nasty and disgusting. She's getting a bit of a reality check since she has realized quickly that everyone isn't shuttled around in limo's.

Dueller - this is a great reality check for us all. All to often we gawk and dream about the models we see yet how often do we consider that they are someones Daughters?

Maybe I'm getting old.

I've been to a hog farm (more than once). At least I know what the smell comes from there. I also know that it is cleaned periodically.

In NYC, the smell is a mystery.

They all are. So is your wife. As long as it's not my daughter, or your daughter, then it's on like Donkey Kong.

Well, we talked to her this evening. She was excited but realized its more tiring and not as glamourous as she might have thought.

BUT...and I know it sounds like I'm making this up...the agency called her tonite for a call interview with the Bill Blass people. They've rearranged that interview so she can see them in early the morning.

Ya know, she's cute and tall and thin but to me she's just a skinny little girl. Of course I guess makeup and photoangles can do a lot, but I was really worried about her being shot down in NY....Oh well
