RIVERSIDE INTL RACEWAY, help
Pelican-heads and Mulhollanders! I know that a good many of you probably have hidden some of the images requested below.
The image below is NOT a photo! It is a portion of a full simulation program by Tom_Pabst@pabstracing.com of Riverside International Raceway. Tom is recreating RIR in simulation as accurately as possible. We need YOUR assistance. If any of you have any still photos, color or black and white from ANY angle of the track or even old video/movie footage Tom would like to see them. He is using them to accurately rebuild RIR as it was at the end of the RIR era. Once finished we will all be able to 'drive' and 'race' on the newly constructed simulation of RIR. There are a few RIR tracks that can be driven on via your X-BOX or other programs but I call attest from 'driving' on several different versions at Tom's shop that none have remotely come close to the original. So with the lack of a correct version of the old RIR Tom has taken it upon himself to re-create the RIR that we all remember and love. Note that he has included the correct corner worker stations, the old snackbar inside turn 6, even the correct placement of the Union 76 ball(s) and telephone poles with speakers attached. Once finished it will be a identical to RIR as is possible. Send anything of interest direct to Tom at the e-mail address listed above. All info is appreciated. Thank you, Ron Cortez -----Original Message----- From: Tom Pabst <Tom_Pabst@pabst-racing.com> To: Ron Cortez <GTAmerica1@aol.com> Sent: Sat, 11 Aug 2007 3:21 pm Subject: Riverside Simulation - Progress Report Ron, I'm making some progress on the Riverside track. This is a screenshot of T-6 with elevations near final. Need you to check it out for me at the shop....... The objects and all textures are not final (you have to put some track side objects on the track or the perspective gets screwed up trying to confirm elevations)............ I just logged 151 hours (last night).......work on this track simulation (since 7/11/07 when I started it). Normally I wouldn't work at this level of detail but this "project" is worth the extra effort since RIR no longer exists........this has to be as good as our memories! Stop by after work this week when you get the chance so I can "check off" this area for elevations. Regards, Tom PS: Okay to send this screen shot out to your RIR buddies....... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AOL now offers free email to everyone. Aw damn. Now that just plain broke my heart to see that.
So many weekends with my Dad, Mom and sisters at Riverside. Seeing Donohue in the 917 hit just that right apex point exiting 6, then the little jump sideways when he got on it. Seeing Follmer get run up the banking in the esses by one of the NASCAR guys during one of the first IROC races in the candycolor 911s. Back window flew up and away like a kite! Culmination was taking my 912 there for a PCA session in 1976. I still have the little souvenir stuckum on the glove box door. thanks for that. Adam912.out. |
Awesome!!!

Boy that (nasty sand filled) gully leading up to #6 sure brings back memories. I'll have to look in the box and see what I've got.
When they get this put together is it ever going to be in a form that we can use instead of a $45hr rental? |
Here are 3 posts I put on the "Mulholland RSR" thread that are all old Riverside pics. Actually, they are all pics belonging to flatspot. He has a lot more.

BUT I'VE DRIVEN A ROUGH PROTOTYPE RIR COURSE AND HE'S CAPTURED THE NATURAL RYTHEM OF THE PLACE. IT'LL BE AWESOME ONCE FINISHED. |
Ifot, Awesome, This Is What We Need Some Action Shots Of The Cars At Various Locations Around The Track. This So Tom Can Get The Elevation Of The Track And Surrounding Hills Correct. The Bump On The Entrance To Pit Lane At The Right Height, The Banking In Turn 9 Correct. The Placement Of The Flag Stand (done).
Tom Even Has The Old Lax Control Tower In Place On The Outsid Of Turn 2, (yes We Know It Was Originally Outside Of The Front Straight Beside The Grandstand There.) His Detail Is Amazing. |
I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know but there is a Riverside International Raceway Museum located in the Inland Empire. I found about it when a flyer from the Local PCA in Riverside was sent to me to attend an automotive detail seminal.
Here's their website, it's pretty lame but it does give information on who to call for reservations : http://riversideinternationalraceway.com/_wsn/page3.html |
Tried emailing Tom a bucket load of RIR photos. No good - his pesky spam filter is set to high. Soooooooooo everyone gets to see them.
