Try to get a listen of some QSC K-8 speakers. Run them with XLR type cables with a mixer. I use an Allen and Heath mixer with mine. Incredible sound. The only better sound that I have heard was with earphones. Sennheiser pro level earphones.

I bought my Heresy's in 1976 and they still sound great to me. :)

I used to have a set of JBL 166 studio monitors, when you listened to Fleetwood Wood Mac, "Never going down again", I swear you could hear the rosin and the fingers on the strings by Lindsey Buckingham and that was with records in about 1979.,

They aren't that great in sound quality, but as per above are highly efficient.

Definitely worth a buy as an 'antique' or as end tables, corner tables, etc.

You could gut them and put modern subwoofers in them.

K-horns in good shape usually sell for about $3-4k these days, depending on condition, pretty sure the ones in that auction will get up there. Once into the used market there are a lot of good speakers in that price range.

Unfortunately I don't have the proper room for a set of K-Horns. I am looking into getting a pair of Cornwalls for my house. Personally, I love the sound of the K-Horn and the La Scala

may I suggest some high end JBL or Revel speakers for passives?

I love vintage Klipsch. My home theater/2 channel setup uses vintage Cornwalls for my mains and Heresys for my center and surrounds. I also have a dedicated 2 ch system using another pair of Heresys in a smaller man room. If you get the Cornwalls off the floor a bit, the bass improves.

As has been said, the musical use and size of the Room is key. I've never liked LaScalas except in a HUGE soundstage. Thats when that big a$$ed horn shines. They are deeper than my Corns and if I tried to use them, my wife would kill me. They take up a lot of space. Im on the edge with my Cornwalls as it is.

Some guys fabricate "psuedo" corners behind KHorns if the layout doesn't provide them and it helps some. Personally I think the Belles are the best of both worlds. A really elegant looking speaker too. For something taking up that kind of space, it should be pleasing to look at. Wish I had the room for a set of Belles, sigh,,,,

$625 and 2 1/2 hours to go... still not a bad deal.

I just bought a pair of Cornwall IV's. Just waiting for them to be delivered which hopefully will be tomorrow. :) These will be the front speakers for my surround and I have RP600m's for the rear. I'm going to get a new Klipsch center speaker soon.

I'm replacing Definative Technology which I loved when they were new but I have blown 2 subwoofers and one regular speaker and I do not blast them (certainly not to the level of blowing). They've been a disappointing and to be honest, my original Bose AM10's (two pairs) sounded better but have found a home as my garage/shop speakers. My Bose speakers are nearly 40 years old and sound as good as new.

I have a pair of Def Tech speakers and 2 15 inch subs that I purchased in the mid
nineties. Still sound great after all these years. They have held up very well.

What finish did you decide on Tidy? My vintage Corns are birch decorators, no grills. I’m kinda partial to the industrial look.

Funny that Klipsch originally designed the Cornwall (albeit with vertical horns) as a single center speaker for the KHorns.

Klipsch story: When I was in college I worked for United Van Lines one summer packing and hauling furniture. At one family's house we were packing, the husband was already living in the new city (new job) so the wife was was running the show directing us as we packed, etc. This was common. Anyway, she told us that we could pack everything in the house except her husband's Cornwalls. They were going to ride in the car with her and the kids. :)

I ended up getting Walnut. I was debating between the cherry & walnut and decided walnut would match my house better. We'll have to see as I tend to get things that look good on the net (in somebody else's house) and then don't look the same at my place. I'm crossing my fingers they come today - definitely this week but I hope today.
