Lever/hand spoon questions/opinions...

Thanks in advance for advice/opinions - I find the spoon-related info here much more concise and reliable than in other forums/reviews I read. There is a great wealth of knowledge here. (I did search previous posts for this - am interested in an update of any new info.)

I'm considering a lever rifle (and possible accompanying pistol) in .357 magnum. I like the idea of sharing ammo between the two for versatility. Intended use is target shooting, plinking, and occasional critters.

Rifle-wise I'm looking at Marlin's offerings. Winchesters are probably too nice for my intended use. Any suggestions for others to review? If buying used, any suggestions for models to look out for?

Regarding pistols - Looks like choices are limited primarily to revolvers unless looking at something fancy from Magnum Research. Revolver suggestions? Am I missing any semi-auto options?

If it's primarily for plinking, why not look at .22's? They'll do fine for varmints depending on how far you want to shoot. The .22 is a good, inexpensive plinking rifle and makes for a cheap round in a pistol too.

I have revolvers and levers in .22 and .357.

A Colt Diamondback and Henry Goldenboy for .22 and a S&W M27 and Marlin for the .357.

The older the better imo....some I've had forever....

Do I really need a .30-30 pistol also ?

edited: Get a S&W 686 and a Marlin .357 .... older ones.

If I was looking for a matched set of rifle and pistol, I would go for the Uberti "Lightning" reproduction in 45 Colt and a revolver in the same caliber. The Lightning rifle is capable of extremely fast repeat shots and an SAA revolver is simple to operate and almost never fails.

No help here regarding lever guns. But if your looking for something for varmints/critters, a .22 LR will cover a lot.
I just last week bought these. Sub-sonic...low noise 22LR cartridges.
They work great...and very quietly. I use them in my semi-auto 22

Those are quiets.

Found them at an old hardware store. Everywhere else was out of them.

The quiets from how it was explained to me was Standard powder-charge, heavy bullet to bring the speed subsonic.

I found a pile in Texas and I did that arm scoop move into my basket.

They are VERY accurate from my Savage.

if you want real quiet.. Zimmers..Winchester Z..
basically .22 long with little more then a primer charger and a smidgeon of powder..

I shot those in my garden out of a .22 TR rifle.. makes less noise then a .22 break air rifle
only noise is the bullet hitting the bullet catch...

just trying to get the box in the pic noticed....as in the writing on the bottom and below the 22 long.
Same as the ones you described.

So the reason why older is better is the quality control.
I bought a marlin 45-70 a few years ago, and it's started rusting just sitting out in a gun cabinet. The older ones have a real blue on them.

No worry about the hijack.

Sorry that I didn't put this out in the original post: I have a few .22's (and an eclectic mix at that - Winchester 53 single-shot semi-auto, Stevens 416 heavy-barrel bolt-action, and a Marlin 39A). My bigger stuff starts at 30-06. Was contemplating something in between...

I've used the subsonic .22LR; seems to shoot well.

OOF! Those 45-70's kick! I used a friend's during deer season and went back to my 12 gauge shooting 2 3/4 with 1 oz slugs.

Haha. . YES. your .22 round is subsonic and lownoise.

What I’m saying is there is the one I prefer. Which is different from yours. Mine are called. CCI QUIETS.
Same FPS as your choice, but mine are slow because of the heavier 40gr bullet.
