Lightning Strike

Yep, we were damaged by TS/TD Erin.

UPS for the Computers (saved the PC)
3xHDTVs
Cable TV lines
All of the cable boxes
Home Phone lines
DSL modem
A/C control unit for one of the A/C units
Control unit for the Pool and probably some of the electrical equipment
Alarm System
Dishwasher
Dryer
At least one GFCI is dead and won't reset

Probably more, but I'm out of town. Wife is going crazy!

Is this where the Monster surge protector gets you $50,000? Hope insurance covers you. Probably time for an upgrade anyway?

We see lightning maybe once or twice a year in SoCal. It brings people out of their houses like a UFO was about to land.

Thats a big hit! Hope you can get everything back online ok but if not then hopefully the insurance will pay. Never taken a direct hit and hope we never do.

It wasn't even a direct hit and I am going to install gas discharge arrestors on everything as soon as I'm home.

It looks like I will be heading home sooner, rather than later. We have a hurricane heading in our General direction.

Ouch. We had a near hit about a year ago, took out the underground cable wire, cable modem, router, phone box, electric stove, garage door opener, my son's small TV, a radio, and damaged two 27" Sony TVs. One now pops loudly when turned on, the other has a small discolored spot in the corner. Insurance paid, so I figure I'll use them until they die.

When it hit, my brother in law, his girlfriend, and my sister in law were all in our basement. When it hit, they said the entire basement lit up. My sister in law was on her cell phone, plugged into the wall. It got hot enough that she had a blister on her cheek the next day. We were upstairs asleep, and with the screaming and the boom, I thought the damn house had exploded. Good times.:)
