How do you Fight Mailbox SPAM????
Please help. every week we get our mailbox filled with crap we don't want, credit card offers, catalogs, ads, etc. etc...
this is unsolicited mail, SPAM, even worse than email spam. With email spam, you can just press Delete and be done with it. with mailbox spam, you have to bring it in, separate the ligitimate mail from the bogus ones, and then throw the crap away. has anyone successfully reduced the # of junk mail ??? Thanks in advance. ![]() |

on-ramp, you might try this: https://www.optoutprescreen.com/opt_form.cgi I have yet to try it because you have to give out: • Name • Address • Social Security Number • Date of Birth I'm a little paranoid.

In Sweden you can register with an office that puts you on a list avoiding all advertising in the mail as well as on the phone.
I knew that helped! ![]()

I shred anything with my name or address on it and use it for packing when sending things in the post or UPS as well as to start fires in the fireplace. Works very well...

If it comes in an envelope, I never open it, just write "REFUSED" on it and stick it back in the mailbox. Fliers I use for packing. I never ever open or read anything that isn't addresses to me specifically or I don't recognize the sender.
In fact, two weeks ago, I started emailing any place that stuck fliers in my front or garage door. One idiot wing place was stuffing fliers in the tops of people's garage doors. In my email to the place, I explained to them how those fliers fly away as soon as someone opens their garage door and no one reads them, but they create litter. Yesterday I got an apology letter from them with a coupon, though I still will not patronize them.

As long as there are mailing lists for sale there will be junk mail. It is one of the cheapest ways to get exposure. Capital One is one of the worst offenders in my mail box. Almost every day, two promos from them (among other crap), one to me and one to my wife. I now recognize the envelops and just tear them in half and ****can.
I have a selfish reasons for liking junk mail though, I spent 35 years in the paper business and JM pays my retirement. ![]() I know what the environmentalist (lunatic fringe) will say but keep in mind, trees don't live for ever. They die, fall over, get blown over, burn, whatever and paper does deteriorate over time. Trees are a renewable resource. I could give you the marketing BS but I'm sure you don't want to hear it or will tell me I'm a tree murderer and this is most likely going to spiral down into a shlt slinging fest so I'll just save my time. Keep that junk mail coming! |

Burning it is ok. But I'm concerned about the burning of ink over a long period of time. Our fireplace is not that well ventilated and the house has a tendenancy to become a little "smoky" after a few hours.. So the thought of inhaling burned ink is not a pleasant one.
Last week I got sick and tired of receiving Chase CC offers so I called the 888 # on the offer letter. I got in touch with a young sweet sounding lady from the Phillipines that couldn't help me. Then I called another 888 number here in the US and requested to have my name/address taken off their mailing list. They always say the same thing: IT WILL TAKE 60-90 DAYS FOR YOUR REQUEST TO GO THROUGH. UNTIL THEN YOU WILL KEEP RECEIVING JUNK.. |

I used to own some apartments that were posted with "No Soliciting" signs.
A local company put obnoxious flyers on every door. I gathered them all up in a pile, walked into their office, dumped well over 100 of them on the desk, and asked them to please not litter on my property anymore. Very effective. They were very apologetic, and never spread their stuff on my property again. |

Tape the postage paid envleope to a box and send it back to them with a brick in the box.

I think there's a way to tell the USPS to not deliver certain types of mail to you. I don't think it'll catch all of the junk mail, but it should catch some.

if you put your SSN and mother's maiden name on the outside of the envelope and put it by the curb, the mail will stop soon enough...
