Anyone watch "Locked Up Abroad"?
I saw the epsiode on Nat. Geo. last night about the two IDIOTS from Leicester, UK who agreed to be drug mules in exchange for an all expense paid vacation to Venezuela. They got busted while walking onto the plane to head back home, were sentenced to three years, which was extended to 10 on appeal (ouch!) and they ended up escaping while on furlough after about 4 yrs. in a horrible prison. What amazed me most was that many of the prisoners had guns and knives and carried them around openly. Just nuts. I also read about some other horror stories where considerably less intelligent people agreed to be drug mules in surrounding countries. None of them did less than three yrs. in some pretty horrible prisons. I guess life is hard on stupid people. Check this show out.

The 20 year old daughter of a friend of mine in sitting in a prison in Thailand for the same reason. It's really heartbreaking for him. She was in her second year of university hoping to become a vetinarian, decided to take a vacation in Thailand, met some Dutch guy who charmed the pants off her and conviced her to carry. Now she's looking at five years in a Thai prison.
My friend has tried everything to get her released but so far without success. It's a tough lesson to learn for one stupid mistake.

So sad to see this and live in a foreign prison is no bowl of cherries like it is here in the US. Hope the ladies make it out and can somehow continue with life, but too many times they are never the same. Its a rough world inside a place like that.
