Getting Fuched in Vegas.....cheaper rooms high food prices....
Moved from the Monte Carlo where I used to take the family to the MGM. The MGM advertised room rates that were 1/3 of the Monte Carlo.
REAL Nice place,,,, but geez the food prices are triple.....Nathan's hot dogs for a late night snack and it was over a 100 bucks for three teenagers and the wife.....I had a ice cream shake at the Haagen Dazs. Anyways, 110F and at least there are plenty of fake boobs to stare at.

Downtown is where my kind of Vegas is. Had a great time downtown and got a room at Binions for $45, had the cheepo prime rib dinners, and won at gambling too :-) The Golden Nugget pool looked like a happening place.

Stayed at the Venetian in April for $270 a night (before taxes and fees). Food was normally priced in the food court, expensive in the restaurants. Thankfully I didn't pay for it.

First time there I stayed at the Sahara. It was cheap and worth it. Second time my company sent me there and put us all up at the Wynn. Crazy expensive and not worth it. I went one day early and had to pay for that night, so I stayed at the Palace Station. Cheap and worth it. Last time I stayed at the Best Western sort of behind Harrah's. Cheap and worth it. You CA guys won't appreciate this, but when I go out west, it's a real treat for me to eat at In N Out Burger, Sonic, Jack In the Box, etc. They don't exist on the east coast. Chinatown in Vegas has a few good places too. Look for the places with only Chinese people eating there and you know it's gonna be good.

Stayed at the Flamingo and gambled wherever there was a $5 craps table.

Oh, we have Sonic commercials on tv here. The closest one is 50 miles south of here. And when I went there, it was packed and there was no parking available. Anyway, I'll be living out west soon enough.

Other than if you are going to gamble heavily, I can't see why anyone would waste their money going to Vegas anymore, esp. with a family.

Agreed. Vegas is all about gaming. If you're there with your kids (can't loiter in the casinos), and don't go for the all-U-can-eat-trough, then break out your wallet. We eat cheaper and better in La Jolla.

I just got back from a week there
![]() We stayed at the Golden Nugget, WOW have they done alot of remodeling! The pool is absolutely awesome! I liked the old buffet a little better, but the food is still top notch. The nice thing about staying downtown, is there are still reasonably priced places to eat: Hennessey's and the little beach restaurant next to it are always good eats. Not to mention, the Black Jack tables downtown are always nicer to me ![]() -Nick

I like how they are trying hard to push Vegas as a family destination, and not just a gambling stop. Yeah, right. ![]() |

I don't get that anymore. I think they abandoned it. Now it's more of the Adult activities they're pimping. What "happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"

The other reason to come to LV is for the Conventions. A coupla years ago they opened a hugh wholesale furniture mart where all the buyers for the stores come to order their furniture. The place instantly superceded the furniture mart in SF and will probably eclipse NC very soon. There simply are more hotle accomodations and entertainment in LV than either of those other destinations.
The Convention biz has superceded the gaming as the #1 industry in LV.

Personnally I stay as far away from the carnival atomsphere of the Tourist industry as I can. As time goes on LV will become more of a home for other businesses, as the tax structure is favorable. There are 2 firearms manufacturers here allready. Arsenal for AKs and Unertle for Scopes and Colt 1911 clones, Unertle has contracts for both from the Marines Corp. The USAF presence is also very substantial here in LV.

The last time, I stayed at the Westward Ho! Talk about amenities, they bus you where you need to go, take your bags to your room across the parking lot, and supply you with ample drink tickets for the the times you just don't care to gamble. I wouldn't take a SO, or kids, but as drunk as I was, it didn't make a schit where I slept. It was dirt cheap. There's food in Vegas?
