Anyone here go deep sea fishing?????

Just came back from Cabo, and one day my pops decided to take my brother, friend and I fishing. We rented a boat and none of us had ever gone deep sea fishing. I've been river fishing a couple of times before but nothing like this. Well we caught something on our reel and they gave me the pole and I was at it hardcore for about 45 minutes. I was saying to myself, "Am i really that weak or is this a big ass fish?", I had to give up and hand over the pole to my brother. He went at it for another 15 minutes, then my dad finished it off for another 30 minutes. We had no idea , absolutely no idea what we had caught.

![]() ![]() 8 feet, 9 inches. 172 lbs. Not bad for our first catch huh? It should be arriving at our house in about 3 months or so.

I used to love fishing the Gulf, there used to be a big fishing rodeo in Mississippi around the 4th of July. Also tarpon off of Padre was good back in the day. In Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo you could go out for sword and have the streaks on the beach that night....mmmm, tasty.

I've been watching the fisheries die out for over 50yrs. Even the politics behind it are disgusting.

There is great fishing on the Sea of Cortez, especially on the east cape of Baja. It is best to catch and release sailfish and marlin, keep the tuna, dorado and wahoo for eating.

If you want to make a trip of strictly fishing, this is a great place to go: http://www.ranchobuenavista.com/

My wife and I (mostly me) did it on our honeymoon last summer. We used a lousy charter service the first time (PM me if anyone wants the name) but the second trip was with Pisces out of Cabo San Lucas. It was a fantastic trip... Dorado and tuna on the way out, one released sailfish, and one broken off blue marlin (of course the one that go away.) I hope to go back for more soon. Remember folks catch and release all billfish!!!

I usually go deep sea puking. I only fish after my stomach has emptied itself of Dramamine and bile. Took my dad out for his retirement celebration on 3/4 day boat. I was chumming over the side for the first 4 hours, fished the other 8.

Last I checked all marlin and sailfish where mandatory catch and release in Cabo... so maybe the fish was damaged.

If you guys read the first post it said the fish would be arriving at our house in 3 months. So yes we are mounting it. We would have released it other wise.

Most taxidermists today do fiberglass mounts, nothing is real. The old ones don't last. When your mount arrives in 3 months check it out, perhaps the only real part will be the bill, everything else will be glass.
