Ever been to Sedona?
What area of Sedona has the best views?
Uptown West Sedona Driving into Sedona from the South Somewhere else I didn't mention? I drove up for the day (from Phoenix) several years ago. I didn't get a chance to explore the whole area. I need to find a hotel with the best view. I want my mom to wake up to the best view possible on her birthday. Tips on where to stay in Scottsdale are welcome too... Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

All of Sedona is beautiful. My first time there we checked into a little hotel hanging on the cliffside with an incredible view. $65 per night! If I can find the name of the hotel, I'll let you know.

ANYWHERE is beautiful! Drive up to the airport to get a great overview of the town, and make sure to take a "Pink Jeep tour".

Wandered off somewhere...

The drive from Flagstaff to Sedona...Oak Creek Canyon...is also not to be missed...especially in the Fall. I think it's Rt 89A but I could be wrong about that. It pretty much parallels a river...nice trees and red rock.

Do NOT go on the weekend. Traffic is horrible, Sedona becomes one enormous parking lot Friday through Sunday.

All of Sedona is beautiful. Best stay I ever spent though was in a cabin on Oak Creek. Great hiking, few people, and no psychic vortices.

Jerome, AZ... just outside of Sedona
If you're in the Sedona area, make a trip up in the mountains to Jerome. I believe it's about 20 miles, and totally worth it. Absolutely amazing little old mining town. Amazing views, fascinating old falling apart buildings mixed in with restored buildings. Just outside of town is an abandoned gold mine that you can go to and walk around. Tons of old trucks and mining equipment.
Hwy 89A that goes through Jerome and through the mountains. Very curvy and quite beautiful. ![]() Jerome Grand Hotel overlooking the town. ![]() Some views from the town. ![]() ![]() Wandering around Jerome. ![]() ![]() Gold King Mine photos ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Check out the Bell Rock Inn, which is across the road from that landmark, not the very top view, but not bad. Nice place imho. I second the Oak Canyon run!

I don't know if you are set on Sedona, but the Grand Canyon is quite impressive and there is a Hotel/Lodge looking over the edge. That would be something to wake up to.
I've only been to a few resorts (here in Phoenix) for happy hour, but the Camel Back Inn/Resort was nice and had a great view from the bar terrace that overlook the pool and city. The terrace also has a few big fire pits that add to the atmosphere (no pun intended, but I do crack myself up from time to time ;-)). If you and your mother are active, there are plenty of hiking or horseback riding opportunities near South Mountain.

Went to Sedona years ago with my then young children. They loved it. Did the train ride to the Grand Canyon from Williams, they loved the horse back train robbers that come along shooting blanks and take over the train. Served us Cokes in glass bottles - the kids were amazed such a thing existed!
Also went another time with only the ex in the good days. Stayed at what was a very expensive place called (I believe) L' Auberge 'de Sedona....or some such snooty name. Beautiful but costly. Worked for us then...don't know if exists anymore.

Verde Canyon Railroad is about 40 minutes from Sedona. We counted eight bald eagles when we did the trip.

Did a vacation to Sedona and the Grand Canyone a few years ago. Flew into Phoenix and immediately drove to the Grand Canyons arriving at night. Stayed at El Tovar for 3 nights. What was neet is that when we arrived at night, my family couldn't see anything (I had been there before). The next morning, the very ledge they were leaning on, they were afraid to approach because the drop off was a few thousand feet. We headed back and hit Sedona for a day. I guess if I hadn't been to the Canyon, it would of impressed me more, but I really didn't see a reason to stay more then a day. Some nice restaraunts. Wacky gift shops. Plenty of holistic stuff with "positive energy man". Some posh resorts. Beautiful yes, but it pales in comparison to the Grand Canyon.
