cheapest internet service available?

I just got an apartment. I have a cellphone. I don't have internet service.

What is the cheapest way to get internet? I don't need a landline and I don't watch television. I have a TV but haven't bothered in 3 months to get an antenna....

from what I see I would have to get phone service or cable service. the only other alternative I know of is an EVDO card, which would be cool and would give me internet pretty much anywhere I travel.

The EVDO card could work, but may be pricey.

In an apartment, the absolute cheapest is to piggyback on someone elses connection, etiher with permission on a properly secured wireless AP, or without on a (much more common) completely unsecured AP. Of course, then you have to be paranoid, since piggybacking is a crime in some areas, or the AP is purposely open so the owner can have fun with those who connect - sniff/steal information, or turn your internet upside down

EVDO cards work great some places and is worse than dial up in others.

For the price you could easily get dedicated broadband DSL/cable.

Absolute cheapest is free dial up from your local library. Lot of them offer it.

As id10t points out, the cheapest connection is your neighbors connection. If caught, just lie your ass off and plead ignorance. Claim you thought the building had it for free.

To leach you'd have to assume his computer is already WIFI capable.

You are also advocating breaking the law.

It's called theft of services.

If you forget to lock your door and I go in and help myself to stuff that you've worked hard to pay for I doubt you'd be pleased.

I just canceled my cable service and activated internet via my phone service, $10 a month in addition to the basic phone line charge of $14 a month.

Cable was charging $60 for internet.

So far with my basic internet I noticed it was a tad slower then my $60 Cable hookup bit for $50 less a month or $600 a year I can live with it.
