You have to wonder if people read. The other weird thing is the huge jump in the bid price from 27K to 55K.

Its not really worth much being a replica. But then again MKIV Cobra Replicas fetch 25K-55K so this is not much different.

Exactly Jim !!!

I was search 356's and thought hmmmmmm this must be a fairly nice convertable "D" , not concourse, but good anyway - and then I see Replica .. omggggggggg this is nuts.

I'm sure either someones not reading or just messing around with the auction

This is tons different. A replica Cobra will outperform the original (and most other things on the street). This thing is a VW w/ a plastic body. Put down the torch & step away from the crack pipe.

Going to have to be a dissenting opinion here (sorry guys)...

First, this car seems pretty over priced for a Vintage. But I've also never seen a Vintage with a roadster/convertible style windshield and roll up windows. I almost think this is an Intermeccanica. At which case, base price as equipped, is about $50,000.

Neither Vintage nor Intermeccanica, nor Beck or Thunder Ranch for that matter (all speedster replica makers) are currently building a car on a VW pan. Most everyone is using tube frame. For registration purposes, some are keeping the rear section of the pan that has the VIN, but that's all, the rest is tube frame.

The replica car market has really gone up in the last few years. Expect to pay for a nice speedster replica, turnkey, about $23-25K. More for subie engines or heavily optioned cars. STepping up to an Intermeccanica, as stated before, plan on spending $50 K. As with all cars, "deals" can be had on used cars especially as the foul weather begins to approach. Used? As low as $12-15 for a good running car.

Likewise with the spyder replicas. $25 to $30K for turnkey. A Type IV powered Vintage Spyder went thru BJ for 42K. A subie powered spyder is $30 to $35K. Only one maker will sell a 6-cylinder porsche engined spyder, plan on spending at least $55 K.

There's replicas that are quite a bit more. An aluminum bodied replica spyder was available (no longer) at 80K for a roller. That's right - a ROLLER....

The replica market has changed from bolt a speedster body onto a shortened VW pan over the weekend and drive that 40 hp wonder to work on Monday, to a more upscale market. A market that expects a Nardi wheel, full leather interior, german square weave carpet, etc. And frankly, they are willing to pay the price of admission.

Driving a repro is like jerking off and then telling yourself you got laid. You can quote me on that.

Sad thing is for "not much" more than 55k you can get a *real* ConvD or Roadster which will only go up in value... or if you want the original Carrera experience a driver grade 356C and a hot type 4 engine for much less... which will also go up in value (esp. if you have original engine stored)

There's a company in California that builds 356 replicas for $20K. Saw a video on TV about them.
Not that expensive.
