The New Direct Marketing - Horizon Foods Wholesale. WTF??

so I leave work early and drive home. I'm almost home and see a Horizon Foods truck in my driveway, with a man standing outside of it, talking to my wife (she was out collecting mail as he happened to pull in). Now I couldn't pull into my own driveway because he was blocking it so I was forced to park in front of my house, in front of my mailbox. I'm furious.

I get out of my car, the guy starts giving me his sales pitch while showing me 4 or 5 steaks of swordfish..
My gut reaction is
GET YOUR FUKING TRUCK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY

but I was nice. I put my hand in the air, said no thank you. he gets in his truck quickly and drives off.

WTF are companies doing? do they have the right to just show up at your house, park in your driveway, and start pitching their crap? it's bad enough with SPAM in the mailbox, now we have to deal with SPAM in the driveway

Next time I call the cops.

Wow, you need a "no soliciting" sign on your driveway!

Nothing new. People have been selling steaks, meats, veggies & shellfish via door-to-door for years.

Please remind your wife..."Don't talk to strangers!".

he probably just stopped to ask your wife for directions to picking up a free tire he found on Craig's List. Mapquest isn't always right you know.

Background: My parents live in a rural area with a driveway that is about 1/8th of a mile long. Here house is 10,000 SF 2 story and only a few years old.

The event: My stepfather comes down the stairs after he hears the front door close. A guy in a Horizon Foods outfit is standing in his house! Before he can start his pitch my stepfather starts asking him WTF he thinks his is doing walking in the house. The salesman says "I knocked a few times and no one answered but I knew someone was home so I didn't see any harm." Stepdad was livid.

The salesman decided to get lippy and ask what the big deal was! My stepfather is 6'4" 270lbs (35yrs old, don't ask). He grabs a pool stick that is laying next to the pool table and flies at the guy.

The salesman flees the house, jumps in his meat truck and gives step dad the finger. Then proceeds to intentional run over the mail box!

I have since let them have my pit bull and they haven't had a visitor yet.

Good stuff.

Driveway SPAM has been around a lot longer than email SPAM. I think they used to call it "door-to-door" selling.

In the United States, door-to-door sales are illegal in communities that have passed a Green River Ordinance. Under such an ordinance, it is illegal for any business to sell their items door-to-door without express permission from the household beforehand. Some versions prohibit all organizations, including non-profit charitable, political, and religious groups, from soliciting or canvassing any household that makes it clear, in writing, that it does not want such solicitations (generally with a "No Trespassing" or "No Solicitations" sign posted.)

The supreme court has ruled against these ordinances in cases where they interfere with interstate commerce.

Many thieves and rapists use the guise of door-to-door sales to target victims.
