cheapest way to rome from SFO

We want to go to Rome in late October. Anyone have insights into cheapest way to get there?

SFO to Berne, then train to Rome?

Joe, I saw your post and thought you were going to offer him a seat in the back in one of your dead heading trips to pick up a client in Europe....

Actually, if you fly across the pond, does your client want you to stay nearby, or do they sometimes have you fly back and forth if they stay a while? How often, if ever, do you guys fly long distances with no passengers?

Last year I went from SJ to Chicago to Rome on American. I dont think there are any direct flights to Rome from the west coast, maybe from LA.

I flew airhitch awhile ago to Rome from LAX. I had to give up my cargo space use only carry on and you had to be flexible by 24 hours with flight times. I am not sure if they are still in business. Went smoothly for me and it was dirt cheap.

Flew to Milan last year with the family of 3 and fly from Denver and it cost us $700 each. Not a bad price really.

Have fun and drink your wieght in wine and coffee.

Cheers!

Do not believe that Steve and our pax would get along well together. Libs tend to be eaten alive inside our plane...

We stay with the airplane. If we are staying for a long time in one location we are given the option of flying home Bus Class or flying the wife/girlfriend to where we are staying. Guess which one happens more often? :)

Only when picking up someone in a different location or ferrying for maintenance do we fly empty. Today we are flying from Boston to Vegas, dropping the primary off then empty from Vegas to Tucson for maintenance. Nice to have the weekend off.

Been out over 3 months now, with 12 days home for emergency dental issues. Time for a month or two off to recharge.
