Gun Control Fans Won't Like This
Buyers no longer need to go to sheriff to get a $10 permit.
It didn't take long for Liliana Owen to realize Tuesday would be a very good day for handgun sales. The co-owner of Doc Holliday's General Store in Ozark said she arrived at work to find three people waiting at the door. "We have a house full of people right now,"*she said at midafternoon.*"Everybody was waiting for today." * Business boomed at many Ozarks' area gun stores because buyers no longer needed a $10 sheriff's purchase permit to buy handguns. Missouri lawmakers dropped that requirement earlier this year. Springfield Police spokesman Grant Story said it's not likely the new law will benefit criminals. "Often the people we have problems with are ones that acquire guns illegally,"*Story said.*"They're not going to follow gun laws to begin with. Those who take the time to fill out those forms and get a background check know that gun can be traced back to them." * |
What's the point of a $10 permit if they already do the standard background check? Revenue?
|
onewhippedpuppy - revenue, and local gun control. sherrif not available, not in town, not in office, not in the mood, etc. Also "we're out of that form" - and they don't plan on getting more any time soon, etc.
Exists on a federal level to some degree for full auto/silenced/etc. stuff, since you need CLEO (chief local law enforcement officer) sign off to get the tax stamp, but the Federal stuff has a loophole in it - no CLEO sign off needed if a LLC or business is buying (all memebers must pass background check still, etc) |

And the irritation of having to drive 25 miles to the sheriff's office to hand over your cash (only) please.
Then having to drive back to pick it up. Silliness. |
We can also kill on sight now! Whoo hoo! Just come knocking on my door.
• GUN RIGHTS (S.B. 62): Missouri residents no longer have a duty to retreat before using deadly force against a person who illegally enters a vehicle, a home or any structure designed for overnight occupancy. |
What a stupid rule that was.

We still have 24-hour waiting periods for long guns and 72-hour waiting periods for handguns in IL--from when the background check is completed.
And the Chicago Dems are trying to get a gun-a-month limit enacted. Not to mention you must be a FOID card hold to buy/own a gun or ammunition... |

It must be the accent, I always thought they were saying "FOIT" card when the IL transplants were trying to purchase here. Is that and ackronym for something? Jim |

Imagine if we had to pay money before we could vote or refuse a police search or get a jury trial or write or say anything we wanted. It's ok with guns though, eh?
|
Florida had the no retreat law 3 years ago. About time the rest got on board.
|
Yup. Wonder how that will jive with the "zero tolerance" policies in schools? I wonder since my boy (he'll be 4 right before the new year) is already bigger than a few kids in his older sister's 2nd grade class  . I of course will raise him to never start fights, only finish them...
Can't wait for my first visit with the principal.. :D Quote:
