This proves Jimmy Carter is nuts...
|
That article "proves" nothing. It is a report of the former President's opinion about a prospective Presidential candidate.
If it proves something then your statements of political prefernce here "prove" ....what? |
Like anyone with a brain didn't already know that pea-nut brain was nutz!!!
Carter never met a dictator he didn't like:mad: |

Ok, not meaning to hijack, but I really don't understand the American reaction to Castro. I mean, he is a dictator, he says a lot of crappy things, he does a few of them....but he is no worse than our friend in Venezuela - Hugo Chavez....
I mean, the American reaction is rabid and seems disproportionate....what gives? Dennis |

Well, he isn't very popular here in FL, and when he offerers support to those who want to do to this country, what he did to Cuba, plus, he has been a thorn much longer and there are still people who owned businesses in Cuba that he seized. Americans aren't too keen on having their property taken from them. |
Carter was a better President of the United States than he is an ex-president, and he was not that good a president either, he had some Middle East issues to go with that whole malaise thing.
|
Carter was elected as one who could offer so called "hope and promise" to a despondent population.
and Fla's anti-Castro political power is huge imo. So much so that it has influenced policies dealing with Cuba for generations. |

Castro is a ruthless man. When I see the nostalgic threads on here about how wonderful Cuba is and to get around the embargo and go I want to puke. My good friend is Cuban and his older brother "thought" Castro was going to be good for Cuba and stayed when his family left in the early 80's in the boat lift. My friend went back recently and the scene was just horrific. Yes, Cuba has amazing medical facilities...... for the rich. The poor get squat, barely a band aid. Free trade? Will land you in Jail. If you have a boat and can catch fish you are not aloud to barter with others, this will land you in Jail. No one can make something out of themselves there. You are poor and will stay that way, nothing you can do can change that. His brother lived in a 12x30 shack, with no screens and no A/C, yes he had running water from a well and electricity but he could not afford to use it. Go to Google Earth and look at Havanah, see how little cars are on the road compared to say Miami. You start to see the destitute of the country. Its hell down there and he needs to go. |
I always have sort of wondered why the US let Castro sit there, not like there is any reluctance to meddle
|
once appon a time there was a deal
post bay of pigs and the oct 62 near war mr K removed the rockets and their nukes and we agreed to leave castro alone now with the USSR history why we have not got him out of power in cuba is a good question |

We could overthrow Castro with one Hummer if we wanted to. But after Iraq who wants to see us get into ti more "nation building".
Cuba will be empty a week after Fidel dies and Miami will look like Hong Kong. |
Tobra,
Its a political trade off. There obviously is a deal "Off the record" that Cuba stayed Commy and we kept certain people and items in Turkey or some other key strategic spot...Why else? Bob |

I agree that it has huge potential but for the the current population they will be on a boat to Miami/Tampa/Orlando/NYC ASAP. I can't blame them one bit. |
Can you imagine, "Cuba" the 51st state.
probably not a bad idea. |
Carter's vision of being "a champion for the poor" meant that he would make us all poor. I still remember his double-digit inflation, interest rates so high you couldn't borrow a dollar, Iran calling him out while he hid, his absolutely ridiculous statements abroad, he is truly a fool. Maybe not crazy, but foolish nonetheless. Senile might be a better description but it's been around too long to be senility.
He should be put in a home where he can't do any more damage. |
Why do we blame one president for a poor economy (caused by basically outside forces) and give credit to another for a good economy? Seems quite silly and illogical.
|
especially considering the high interest rates were largely the result of Carter appointing Paul Volcker head of the Fed, where he remained for 25+years because he was doing a good job.
|
he just like his brother Billy...he just wears pressed blue jeans .

And personally I think fewer cars on the road is a good thing. You have to see Cuba in the round. Of course communism is deeply flawed, but go to Las Vegas and tell me the alternative isn't also deeply flawed. I'll take Havana over Las Vegas any day - all day. But if you really wanted to change the place the embargo is really the stupidest way to go about it. By isolating the place you give it's leaders breathing room and legitimacy. Embargos never work. Look at Iraq or Burma for example. "Constructive engagement" is a far better policy for dealing with rogue regimes. Trade with Cuba and travel there, and the place would start to open up all by itself, and the regime will lose its legitimacy very rapidly. |
The title of this thread would indicate that more proof is somehow necessary. I'm confused.

A lot of the things Carter wanted to do would have served this country well. People couldn't hear it then, and won't hear it now.
When gas was 75 cents, he wanted a 25 cent tax to put towards public transportation. He created tax incentives for alternative energy research and use. Of course that had to go ! Clean air and water ? Rubbish ! Asking people to conserve ? Un American for sure ! Foreign relations ? What a BUBBA. There have been worse presidents. All he lacked was balls, which is all some presidents have for brains. Followers love that though. |
Mr. Carter was a lousy president.
He was almost universally praised for being a great ex-president with all of his humanitarian work, and I think that went to his head. Instead of continuing his humanitarian work, he has decided to re-open his mouth, and remind us of why he was such a lousy president. He would be better off to close his mouth, and build some more homes. Maybe in New Orleans. |
