1990 Volvo Auto Tranny

Can anyone tell me if this is my Volvo's kickdown cable?:

If not, where can I find it?

If so, how can I tell if it's loose or properly tightened?

I'm guessing no.

It looks like the dipstick tube.

If it has a cable, it should be connected to the throttle plate. Then just follow it to the transmission.

Trans cooler line as nota noted. The kick down cable would be on top. You'll have better luck tracing it from the motor back. Near the intake assembly there should be a cable going to the transmission, unless your trans is completely computer controlled.

FWIW, the big rusty one is your exhaust pipe

I think I found it. At idle, when i pull on the lowest cableon the throttle body, which I believe to be the kickdown cable, the cable can be pulled in from the firewall toward the throttle body about four inches, giving it ample slack. From what I read (Haynes manual), the kickdown cable should be taut at idle.

Have I found the cause of my transmission woes (will not "upshift" when in drive)?

That's usually a vacuum modulator going bad.

I don't know if Volvos have one though.
