Vintage Grand Prix of Watkins Glen -- Who's In?

September 7th to 9th. Check it out: The Glen

BMW is the featured marque this year, so I'm taking the '02 down. For a paltry registration fee, you get 2 laps of the old course, 2 laps of the new course, primo parking and passes to both days of racing.

Anybody else heading to the Glen for the races?

JP

Been planning on it. Trying to find someone to share gas expense and hotel/camping expense.

Is there a tech requirement for participating? my 911 won't be ready for this but next year would be a good time.

The Tour du Marque (or whatever it's called) is for BMWs only -- this year. Next year the featured marque will be Triumph. They're enlisting Unimogs now to follow the Triumph tour and sweep up the pieces.

You can do a winery tour that will provide two laps of the old (6.6 mi) track. AFAIK there are no "tech" requirements -- they're not "hot" laps.

If you can't find the wine tour info through the glen website, try the county event website, or let me know, and I'll dig up the brochure.

so far... we've got only two (maybe 3) going to The Glen! For the largest Vintage Race in the country?!

you gyz r teh suck.

My wife and I will be in the village on late Friday afternoon to see all the cars gridded on South Franklin St., the re-enactment of the first race and get some dinner up by the courthouse(southerly end of village on S. Franklin) on the lawn. A good spot to meet is right on the courthouse steps(wine and cheese close by).

I'm willing to defer to the expertise of someone whose stipulated location is "near Watkins Glen".

I think the Tour du Marque stuff wraps up around 2:00 pm, and we park in some special lot in town. So I should be available anytime after that.

Looking forward to this!

what i find strange about friday is the lack of people on the gorge trail. I mean people come from states away to the event and im sure most of them dont hike the glen at least not on friday. I understand that they go for the cars but geeze it only takes what like an hour round trip and if your in town all day your not missing anything plus its free. I enjoy the trail just as much as i do the cars. Heres a pic i took last year. As you can see no one in sight
