any good wireless home security systems??

Anyone have any experience with a wireless home security system that does not suck??

I want to install a wireless security system in my house, the kind that calls you when an event happens but is not associated with a company that monitors the system. It must have motion sensors etc. I have been looking online for such a system and have found a few that seem fairly good in the $400-$600 range. however it seems like there are a lot of negatives surrounding the industry, X-10 systems seem hit or miss in the reviews as do other brands.

Is it just unrealistic to think I can buy a decent unmonitored wireless alarm
system?

Hopefully someone with direct experience can chime in-

When you say wireless, do you mean the install in the house (door sensors, motion, etc) are all wireless? Or do you mean a wired system in house that has a cellular dialer built in so that it wirelessly contacts YOU, when something is triggered?

I have the latter, but it is with a monitoring co (vector). I'm real happy with it though, when I'm away I can see when the power goes out, when it comes back on, if anyone tries to enter a code that doesn't work - just about anything, sent right to me cell.

Take a look at the DSC range of products. I use them extensively in my business here in Oz and they have proven to be extremely reliable. Their wireless equipment is some of the best available.

Thanks for replying, any input on these systems is very helpful.

To clarify, I am interested in a system that is wireless to install and has the homeowner contact feature that dials the homeowner in the event of a break in.

if anyone has first hand experience with a system like this let me know good or bad and who makes it.

Thanks, Jeff
