Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more

Id love to change the world
But I dont know what to do
So Ill leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, monopoly

Id love to change the world
But I dont know what to do
So Ill leave it up to you

World pollution, theres no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

Id love to change the world
But I dont know what to do
So Ill leave it up to you

[QUOTE=Superman;3466725].....Some of these kids, who were headed for death or prison, are journeymen now and building roads, bridges and homes for others while owning homes themselves and saving for their kids' college....QUOTE]

Sounds like a worthy program.

Yes, thank you. It is a good program. I am in the construction industry, which is SCREAMING for young folks to learn the trades. Young people these days are hoping for more glamorous work, turning their noses up at these construction careers. Disadvantaged youths are more open to them. This is interesting because......those hi-tek jobs that today's young people are lusting for......are at risk of outsourcing. Not so with construction jobs. A typical journeyman wage is in the $30-$35 range, with $12-$15 in benefits on top of that. Full health care, full retirement accounts, etc. In three decades, these disadvantaged youths will have homes and boats and kids in college. Maybe not so for the kids hoping to program video games. I feel entirely comfortable pushing these careers.

Yes, we lose something when we start to look down on physical labor - regardless of how well it pays, the needs we have and the technical skills it demands. I did some construction in college and still love to build stuff and volunteer.

I am in the marine industry (on the landlubber side) my old boss had been a boat builder, research diver, charter boat captain and inter-island pilot. He used to look around the office and say "this is NOT men's work". We would all look at our shoes and agree...:(

EVERY industry is screaming for young people. Electricians, maintenance, industrial motors, every blue collar job you can imagine. I'm worried about who is going to maintain our infrastructure within the next twenty years.

I would add the corollary

'When Corporations find they can get more Money from the Public Treasury than it costs to buy the Votes of the elected Representatives, it will be the end of the republic'

Also True

How true. I grew up in a small logging town, where a day's work was a day's work. It felt good to work. It also made me stronger, in more ways than one. I recently hooked my almost-son-in-law up with a trainee position with a plumbing/pipe fitting company. They're doing layoffs for the moment, but he's not going to be included. The kid is on the ball. But here's the deal: I knew he would tear into that job, and was happy to recommend him (plus, he could pass a drug test.....that's rare these days). Today, the look in his eye is brighter than ever, and his arms look decidedly bigger. He looks like 26 year-olds should look, in my always-humble opinion.

Strange that when I googled the song I found the lyrics on a dozen sites but they all credited the lyrics to his band "Ten Years After" but no mention of Mr. Lee.
