Latest House Project With Many Pics!

Well Gang - Its finally done! I started this project back in May and finished a few weeks ago! You know that old adage, a 3 week project is really a 3month project.

All work was done by myself, in between working 50+hour weeks and maintaining 5 cars and a relationship.

The house is 51year old Brick Rancher that I bought last year that needs alot of "updating". When I moved in last year, myself with two friends laid over 2000sq. feet of hardwood and ripped up all the white carpet that was laid through the entire house. The white carpet was nice and very expensive quality, but not practical, impoosible to keep clean and way too '70s for me. Plus you can't beat real Oak hardwood.

So this most recent project, was:
1) Ripping up the same white carpet that went into the finished basement
2) Removed all the white painted wooden stair spindles

Replace:
1) The stairs with Oak hardwood (No. 2) - horizonal portion
2) New Wood trim on the riser with LED lighting
3) New powder coated wrought iron balusters

The Before:
The white carpet:

The wooden spindles:

Ripping out the dry wall under the stairs to run the new wiring to the lights:

New oak stairs:

New Philips LED Lights:

Completely finished (new wrought iron balusters) - big improvement:

Total project cost was about $2500 +/- with all the materials. I cannot imagine how much it would have been to pay a contractor to do it.

Enjoy, and more to come as I do one project at a time!
Regards - Yasin

that's very cool. especially the night lights.

i find that wooden steps are more slippery than carpeted one. do you treat them with anything to increase the friction and less likely that someone might slip and fall ?

good job! you saved a lot of money, how much would a contractor charge for this?

Well done!

Looks like a very nice house from what I can see in the pics! Looking forward to see more of it.

I moved into a new house in June. Done a lot of painting after that. What a terribly boring job that is, but as you say it feels good to save a lot of money.

Very nice S&R! Can't say I've ever seen LED's like that on stairs, but it looks great. Looks like you did a high quality job yourself AND saved some big money.

Where in COS is the house located? I lived there for 8 years and just wondering what part of town you are in.

Congrats on a job well done!
