Office Space/Mike Judge fans: Seen his movie "Idiocracy" yet?

I hear Office Space quoted often here on OT, so I thought I might do a plug for an unreleased movie also done by Mike Judge (creator of Office Space) called "Idiocracy". I didn't even know about this movie until a fellow Mike Judge fan told me about it. It was a medium-budget movie backed by Fox starring Luke Wilson which was only released in 130 theaters in 2006 and then on DVD.

The premise is that the world's dumbest people have completely out-populated the smart ones by the year 2505. COSTCO is the size of a small city, Carls' Junior serves "big ass burritos" and their tagline is "F You! I'm eating!". The president of the USA is an ex-professional wrestler and porn star, to get an idea.

There are some *very* politically incorrect (that's not to say untrue of course!) aspects of the movie including tons of racial and class sterotypes. This is why I think Fox avoided controversy by only fulfilling their minimum contract, releasing it to only 130 theaters and on DVD. Not to mention it slams a lot of big corporations by name...the same ones that probably advertise on Fox News.

More info on the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

I found it hilarious, and its a real shame Fox didn't release it widely. Did anyone else see this movie yet? You can rent it now at most video stores...a very funny yet ominous movie.

Haven't seen it, but sounds like a good rental.

Or I suppose I can just live long enough to see it become reality. Way we're going, it probably will, from the sound of it.

It was pretty funny... mostly dumb slapstick comedy.

The whole explanation about why the world is so dumb was a good one!

Thanks for the heads-up!

Go away, I'm baitin'!!!:D

I loved it. It's pretty darn funny, and was a bit of a satire about the state of the world.

Office space is another great, especially if you've ever worked in a corp environment. I've never worked anyplace as bad as microcom or whatever the company is, but still....

CJFusco 09-10-2007 07:28 PM

I've heard of it. Now that I've heard a recommendation, I think I'll rent it.

I thought is was funny in a really stupid sort of way. If you're in the mood for mind numbing comedy, this is one.

I like how they were watering their fields with gatorade...

Office Space is a must see, especially for those in the corporate world. I think I have at least one Office Space "moment" every day.

Really? I would of never guessed it from your avatar:) I love that movie and most anything Mike Judge does, "King of the Hill" is hilarous. Now about those TPS reports.....

+1 on Office Space. -Love the fax machine scene. Too bad the wrong guy drives the P-car.

I think Judge's best work was Beavis and Butt Head. I was so bummed when he ended that to go do King of the Hill, which has never once gotten a laugh out of me, other than when Boomhower talks. But I will check out Idiocracy.

Idiocracy was better than office space if you ask me, but I never worked in an office.

I agree with Rick that Beavis and Butthead was his best work. Hank Hill was sort of in that too.

Nice clip Matt. Looks great!

I thought this Thread was going to be about the Pelican BB.

I've seen it about 3 times in the last week. I think there's a message in it, but I haven't found it yet so I'll keep watching ;).

I often tell people that 'Office Space' is the only movie with a gangsta rap soundtrack that I like. :)

Have you tried playing it backwards?
