Hardees / Carl's Jr

Too bad the food sucks so bad, otherwise I'd go after seeing this one.

This would be much better if they didn't use such crappy music and stupid punk kids who look like they would jack your car:mad:

I can't open the links at work so I don't know what they are about but I have a comment about their latest commercial.
It's the one that is a blatant cheap rip off attempt at hot for teacher by van halen. Then it gets worse with a bunch of punk wannabee posers who pretend to be ghetto rappers.
First time I saw that I fired off a nasty-gram to Carl's telling them what I think about the commercial and the idjits who thought it actually might be a good idea. Then I told them neither I or any of my family will spend a penny at one of their "restaurants" as long as that commercial is in use.
Not very often I get pissy over a commercial but this was one.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-12-2007 03:37 PM

yeah, you're not gonna want to open these at home. :)

I wish to god there was a Carl's Jr. in MA or within 200 miles.

When I lived in Texas, the nearest one was about 250 miles away, but was on the way to Laredo, which is convenient if you are going there, which we did a few times.

You did see my comment about the music & kids:mad:

sammyg2 09-12-2007 08:57 PM

Yep, that second one pissed me off. I figured it might be the same commercial but couldn't be sure.
The first one was kinda nice, but doesn't belong on TV IMO.

Hmmm...some fast food chains sell sex and food, while others sell God and food:

Quote:

Chick-fil-a founder S. Truett Cathy is a devout Southern Baptist who has taught Sunday School for over 44 years and whose religious beliefs permeate the company to this day. The company's official statement of corporate purpose says that the business exists "to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A." The chain invests heavily in community services (especially for children and teenagers) and scholarships. Cathy's beliefs are also responsible for one of the chain's distinctive features: All Chick-fil-A locations (company-owned and franchised, whether in a mall or freestanding) are closed on Sundays

cashflyer 09-13-2007 05:36 AM

dd... the chick-fil-a guy has a very strong commitment to his personal values, and all of the stores are closed on Sunday. However, he does not use religion in his advertisements. I don't know that him making his belief public knowledge is selling "god and food" or even using god to sell food.

30 years ago, Hardee's had good food. One day they were bought up by Spartan Foods and the quality nosedived. Eventually, they had such a bad reputation that they were unprofitable and were bought up by Carl's Jr. For a short while, Carl's Jr. made some real improvements in the menu offerings and the stores themselves. But for the last 5 years, it seems to be steadily slipping back into the realm of "food that I wouldn't feed a dog".

(Based on my experience with Hardee's restaurants in the upstate SC area. YMMV.)

legion 09-13-2007 05:51 AM

I loved Carl's Jr. when I lived in Socal 20 years ago...

Hardees is okay. I like their 'six dollar burger'. But the service is ungodly slow.

Huh? Ummm...no. It's just in Chick-fil-a's mission statement on their website. I wouldn't expect them to say when a person walks into a Chick-fil-a store, "Buy a chicken sandwich for God," just as I wouldn't expect to hear when walking into Carl's, "Buy a Western-bacon cheeseburger and get laid by Paris Hilton."

I'm not saying either Chick-fil-a owner S. Truett Cathy or former Carl's Jr. owner Carl Karcher or departed Ray Kroc, (McDonald's) push (pushed) their beliefs on customers, I'm just saying they're there. In fact, about fifteen years ago, there was a huge push out here for people to boycott Carl's Jr. because of Karcher's political leanings, which are, in part, contained in the quote below:

Quote:

In the other corner is Carl Karcher, long-time GOP contributor and funder of anti-choice and anti-gay rights initiatives. He sat on the board of Thomas Aquinas College. Karcher's conservative street credibility was enhanced among the right when his Carl's Jr. and Hardees restaurants were accused of "food porn" with the introduction of a one-pound "monster burger." Carl was further cheered by the right for his 2004 "Chicken" spots making fun of French military failures, ads which spawned threats of a class-action lawsuit by francophiles.

So it is OK to boycott his business because of the owners personal beliefs(if as in the case here they are normal) but if a business tries to ram the owners belief (if they are supporting gays) into the public, then you if you boycott the business, you are a bigot.

If one's passionate about their cause, they should be able to shake off any "bigot" charge.

Fact is, many protest businesses based on their politics. I know quite a few people who won't shop at Ikea because they support gay lifestyles, won't buy Ford products because Henry Ford was anti Semetic, wouldn't buy GM products in the early 90s because GM supplied South Africa police the vehicles they used against blacks during Apartheid. Won't go to Walmart or Home Depot because they hire illegals. The list goes on...

Shaun @ Tru6 09-13-2007 08:12 AM

I thank God for making cows so tasty.

chapo 09-13-2007 08:26 AM

Carl Kartcher is rolling over in his grave. He was a very religious man. I went to a student/ business seminar in high school and he passed out free burger coupons with religious quotes on the back.

Amen to that!

Aerkuld 09-13-2007 09:10 AM

I just wish we had an In-N-Out in this part of the country. There are days that I swear I'd drive 100 miles for one of those if I could.

teenerted1 09-13-2007 09:33 AM

i loved Carls when i lived in So Cal 10yrs ago.
we finally have one up here 10miles from my house...unfortuatly it isnt near anywhere i need to go. loved the 1/2lb burger with the onion rings on top....mmmmm grease is tasty....

100 miles for In-N-Out! Hell, I have to fly to Atlanta to get a real Chick-fil-a.

Taste is lost in the distance. Popeyes in LA sucks. In New Orleans, though, with an order of dirty rice...hmmmm!

scottmandue 09-13-2007 09:47 AM

Thank God for my DVR so I don't have to watch this drivel...

Yeah the ladies in the ad are hot but if I want to see that kind of stuff I could switch on MTV (I don't) or better yet drop by Hooters and get up close and personal. :D

Carl's Jr does make a good burger though... haven't been there for a while only because I live in S. Cal and I am spoiled with a multitude of burger options. If I am going to have a burger it is usually at the local brewery. A restaurant chain around here called Islands has the best burger I have tasted... at seven bucks without fries it better be good!

And all this "I'm not going to shop here or there because of so and so political/religious beliefs". If we all stuck to that we would never leave the house.

I agree. BTW, how's the weather outside today? :p

sammyg2 09-13-2007 11:20 AM

I liked Carl Karcher.
I don't like carl's jr.
I really like Chik-fil-a
I don't like Mcdonalds (becasue IMO their food sucks).
I'd say Ikea can bite me but they just might.
I hate fords, but only because they are POS and not because henry was anti-semetic.
I like chevys.
I shop at wal-mart occasionally.
I like home depot but flip off the illegal day workers when they crowd my truck and get in my way.

If anyone feels like calling me a bigot because of that list they can go have sex with themselves. ;)

You're a bigot... if anyone needs me I'll be in the bathroom. :D

I didn't even know about the IKEA thing.

I can't keep up, can someone put together a list of all the things and people I'm supposed to hate and why?

sammyg2 09-13-2007 11:44 AM

That would be a big list.
I didn't know about Ikea either, and prolly wouldn't care. I just naturally hate that wimpy type of minimalist furniture they sell. Seems too cheap to me.

legion 09-13-2007 11:53 AM

Does Carl's Jr. still exist or are they all Hardee's?

Can you still get a Star Burger?

Maybe I could send you a Chick-Fil-a in exchange for an In-N-Out? On the other hand I think the taste would definitely suffer with the distance and my shake would melt.

legion 09-13-2007 11:56 AM

I never had In-N-Out, even when I lived in SoCal. My parents despised it, so I never got to try it.

We have 5 Chik-Fil-A's in Bloomington/Normal, but four of them are in private cafeterias and the other is at the university...

Rick Lee 09-13-2007 12:09 PM

In-N-Out is the best! But, some of you religion haters might be disappointed. IIRC, they put Biblical verses on the bottoms of their cups or fries baskets. I can't remember where exactly, but someone pointed it out to me while we were eating there years ago.

Really?

From what I recall it didn't seem to affect the taste of the food though.

They are all over the place out here.. In and Outs are spreading big time too.

I remember when it was a big deal to go to an In and Out, when we would go on family trips as we were entering Calif. in the family station wagon mom and dad would stop at the only In and Out I knew of in San Bernardino (I think) and they would get burgers for the whole family.

Anyone know where the first In and Out was located?

sammyg2 09-13-2007 01:24 PM

Anyone familiar with the original tommys burger?
Messy and huge chili burgers.
I've stood in line at the original tommys stand on beverly and rampart at 3 am for one of these burgers and a bottle of pop out of the old style ice chest type of frig. Then you have to stand up and eat at the little counter shelf thing.
One of the few things I'd be willing to go to LA for.

I love Tommys... they have one in Manhattan Beach, CA...

sammyg2 09-13-2007 01:30 PM

In 1948, the first In-N-Out Burger was founded by Harry and Esther Snyder in Baldwin Park. Harry's idea of a drive-thru hamburger stand where customers could order through a two-way speaker box was quite unique. In that era, it was common to see carhops serving those who wanted to order food from their car. Harry's idea caught on and California's first drive-thru hamburger stand was born.
