Livi,

I am probably going to miss you. You've probably already finished your overnight shift, but...I THINK I have noticed before your having made reference to the fact that you are not from the States. That you are "foreign" per se. This isn't actually a cause for concern with you, is it?

Speaking for myself; but I think a lot of guys will agree I really, really like that you are on the baord here. Others too who are "foreigners". I like that you usually (and sometimes unintentionally) puncture the pomposity of some opinions that get expressed. I like it that you bring another point of view to a given discussion.

Since I am makingthis point, I think I have read rude responses to opinions you (or other non-Americans) have written. Usually in response to something about government sponsored/provided health care or about gun ownership and usually these rude responses are in the vein of "what do you know foreigner?". I think these responses are VERY rude and more than that, they show a true lack of sophistication. They reflect that so many Americans lack understanding that there is a world out there and it isn't just us on the planet. I am sorry if this has happened to you but NEVER let it keep you from voicing an opinon here.

Anyway, rambling here. It's 6 am and I have been up awhile, can't sleep. Take care livi. I probably won't be back to this thread any time soon - I am going out of town for the weekend but I would be interested in reading your response if you have one, Best to you, Dan

Markus, you haven't tried it yet. They won't delete this thread until you show us that you can do it.

So how do you quote multiple posts?

Hit the "quote" button, copy the text you want, click on 'back' and then hit "quote" button on the next portion you want to use, then paste in the first section you copied into your reply.

Dan,

What a genuinely nice and insightful post.

Thank You!

I am truly pleased if my being and sometimes stressing the fact that I am a 'durn for'ner might contribute something back to you guys.

Yes, I feel 'foreign per se'. Always have. It is for most parts not a problem. This was actually the first web forum I have attended and I remember a few times during the first year when I was surprised how aggressive some posters responded. However, since then I have adjusted myself in part but I also feel that this forum in general has become a more benevolent place this last year.

I am fully enjoying myself here now and time spent here is both entertaining, inspiring and educational - as this thread is proof of. SmileWavy

Livi,

another helpful trick is to quote someone, then edit what THEY said.

Example:

Nice Jake, but Markus prefers clogs.

don't let it go to your head Markus..Dan is right,
besides some of us remember your GF from hell.

I´m a lumber jack and I´m so gay,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

Yes, Jake, I can see how that can be very effective! Good tip! :D

Good one, Rika!

Remembering both the clogs and my ex is very heart warming indeed. Like stepping inside a door, feeling at home simply because many of the people in the room know your story - both ups and downs.

notfarnow 09-14-2007 10:00 AM

Try it!

You still haven't shown us that you have mastered the quoting function.

EDIT: I see from the post above that you've got it down pat.

One thing that I've always liked about PPOT is the different perspectives and life experiences that everyone brings here (well, almost everyone:)). I've always assumed that Livi was simply "poking fun" at himself, and sure hope that's the case. Dan, I recall a while back that you were hesitant to reveal your ethnicity...are "we" (as a collective group) really that bad here? I personally learn something every single day from this intelligent, yet diverse group of personalities and wouldn't want it any other way.

livi 09-14-2007 10:31 AM

I am working on it Jake, I am working on it !! :D

As a reference, I was the last one of my colleagues to adopt the Internet drug prescription system. They were all laughing at me when I reached for my old trusted paper prescriptions..

Yes, David, in that sense we are traditionally very liberal in Sweden. ;)

Keith, I agree but it also strikes me (as in this thread) that there is a core group of members that emphasizes this notion.
