Lake Superior Circle Tour (pic)

Wife and I left on our tour of Lake Superior on 9/8. We're going north to Duluth then east through Wi and into the UP of Mi, To Sault St Marie then into Canada and around to MN. We're driving our 1987 911 3.2 Cpe.

Vastly different from last time I was in Duluth. Lake Superior was frozen.

Please post more photos. My wife and I did that (although in a 87 Nissan pick-up) before we got married. We stayed in L' Ance, and camped on the LP side of the Macenauk (sp?) bridge.

My daughter and I have been watching Feasting on Asphault and plan to do something similar in a 911. I will add this route to the list. MMMM pastie.

I sailed on the north shore (Canadian side) for a week at the start of the summer.

Here are 3 pics from the trip. The water was 37 degrees. The weather go to the low 70's a few times- It was pretty cold, especially at night!

That's a 50 foot Beneteau.

Excellent trip!

The wife and I are planning the same in a few weeks. We're taking an '02 911 though - the last 4kmi trip we took in the SC was a bit austere.

Is the Canada highway above the N. Shore a divided expressway? We're coming up from New Mexico to visit family in N. Michigan (south of the bridge though...) and I'd rather cut back from Thunder Bay to Duluth and across the UP on 2-lane roads than do another few hundred miles of expressway to the Soo.

Keep up the updates!

It is chilly here now as well, I bet we see overnight temps in the 40's today was about 60 or so. Here is a reminder of what they ar in for here. I have been to this area snowmobileing but never in the warmer weather.
This is near N of Houghton Mi in the Keweenaw Peninsula, it's the local snow gage.

Today we drove N into the Keweenaw Penisula, we took a break in Greenland Mi and Visited our favorite snowmobileing bar tender Beer Belly Bob. We have snowmobiled in this aera for the last ten years at least once every year. This is the first time we have ever been here with no snow on the ground.

This next stop was all my wife's idea, she really wanted to have a beer. Their special is "a 12" hot dog". I was wondering if this is how they came up with the name for this town? This is one of the many abondoned buildings in the area We'll be heading to the Picure Rocks state park in the morning. Here are a few more shots of Brockaway Mtn. The last sot was a view of Copper Harbor.

Great pix. Keep posting.

We just got back from the UP a few weeks ago. We were in the Porcupine Mtns too. We do the hike by the mouth of the Presque Isle river, where it drops into Superior. Water levels are way down this year.

We went to the Black River Falls for the first time this year, we plan to go again next year. There are a series of 5 falls on the Black River, as it drops into Superior. There is a little harbor there too. Nice hike, about 3 miles to see all the falls and the lake. It's only about 30 mins north of Iron Wood, MI. Here is a pic. Sorry, no P-car content. The 914 is apart here in California.

After the boat tour we drove 45 miles down I-75 Over the Mackinaw Bridge. We learned from the people in the UP that people living south of the bride are called trolls (they live below the bridge). Here are a few more pictures.

On the lower Mi side is the Mackinaw Lighthouse.

We have Snowmobiled the UP for the last ten years, best place to ride around here IMO.

Just got home this afternoon 1992 miles total, no problems with a really fun car! We have more pictures to share. LATER.

Lots of familiar photos there. The Keweenaw Peninsula is one of my favorite areas of the country. I'd love to have my 911 up there some day - that must have been a blast driving up/down Brockway mountain and driving the winding road along the coast from Copper Harbor to Eagle River! I lived in Houghton/Hancock and was there during that 390 inch snowfall Spent countless hours cycling (bicycles) all the roads of the Keweenaw. Thanks for posting those.

The Whitefish Bay area is a nice area to drive. We took our 911 on our honeymoon up into the same areas you are visiting. We had a great time and, of course, the car never let us down.
Have a safe drive on the rest of your trip.
