How do you sell a "Parts Car"?
 

I'm going to look at a '78 SC roller today. Seller does not have a title. The first thing I do will be to check the VIN with the FHP to determine it is not stolen. Question is: How do I go about re-selling the tub after I'm done stripping it? A purchaser needing a rust-free chassis for a resto/re-build would need a title matching the VIN, no? Has anyone here re-built a car on a donor chassis without a title?

I would talk to your local DMV.

After you've researched the car's (or its parts') origin, post it up on Classifieds. Just be candid about what you know of its history, whether checkered or not.

You know anyone in New Hampshire? In New Hampshire they don't issue titles for cars older than like 1985. So if you buy an old car in new hampshire all you get is the bill of sale, NO TITLE. Maybe you can figure out a way to get a bill of sale and temp tag from new hampshire. Then when you register it you should be able to get a new title for the car. There may be other states that have this as well, I just know NH does because I've been through that circus.

I can't say that this method is 100% legal it is just a way you could do it.

You need at least a Bill-of-Sale to get rid of the tub. Race cars are commonly bought/sold with no change of title- Just a Bill of Sale.

A wrecking yard, scrap steel yard, or even a hulk hauler will need some proof before they will take a tub. A Bill of Sale is adequate.

If there is a chance that the tub would someday become street legal again, then I don't have a clue.
