Need LA hotel recommendation. Happy Hour anyone?

I'm getting married in Vegas on Sat., 10/20 and the next day heading to LA for a drive up the coast. I think we'll spend Sunday, 10/21 and Monday, 10/22 nights in or around LA. I'd love to get together with some SoCal Pelican folks for some drinks. And if you guys have any suggestions for a decent, but not expensive hotel in the area, please advise.

C'mon, man! It's L.A. - you gotta' go big. Bel Air hotel's where you want to be.

My fav is the Marriot on S. Figueroa. Clean, reasonable, good location.

Westin Bonaventure is right across the street.

For happy hour try the Standard. Really upscale trendy kinda place. Around the corner from the Westin.

If you want cool laid back I love this place The Figeuroa http://figueroahotel.com/, right across from the Staples Center and 3-4 blocks from the Morrison Hotel, yeah that one which I do NOT recommend.

Wow, very cool - congrats!

Do you (or your wife) like Disney? My wife might be able to get you a decent rate at Paradise Pier, she works there.

If not, and you want to stay down this way for a night, the Coast Sheraton is nice - that's where my relatives usually stay when they come to town.

Actually, I'm not really sure where we want to be. I think we will go to Hollywood, Santa Monica and I don't know where else. I know traffic conditions makes things a little more spread out than they appear on a map. So how bad a drive is Long Beach or Manhattan Beach from S. Monica and Hollywood? Jeff, thanks for the offer, but I don't think Disney is in the cards. Would like to grab some beer with the LA guys though.

The Grafton, on Sunset. Cool art deco rooms.

The W !!

Congrats!!!

Not too bad a drive. I used to work in Santa Monica, so it's not THAT far a drive. As a commute though, I will say it got a bit tiresome. . .

Anywhere from Santa Monica to about Sunset Beach area is reachable in an hour or less under normal conditions. Definitely up for a brew or five if you're going to be around. I'm sure others will pour out of the woodwork too once they see this.

I'd love to be there, but I'll be on a Disney Cruise to Nassau next week.

If in Santa Monica, Shutters on The Beach

If in Hollywood, Standard Hotel

PM'd ya, Rick.

Shutters on The Beach is not exactly what I would call "not expensive."

It's all relative...

Used to stay at Le Parc (right near la cienega (sp) and half way between melrose and sunset) in W. Hollywood when I visited my grandparents - they had a place in the 800 block of N Alford. Not a location for the homophobic though...

Grafton had no availability. Island, I'll check that out. Thanks.

Honeymooning with the Pelicans. Wayne should give you a wedding gift (parts purchase discounts) for being so hard core. :)

Ha ha. I'm gonna haffta try real hard to not make this visit to LA all about the things I want to see and do. I think I will pick Bayside in Santa Monica. Next thread will be recommendations for serious, authentic Cantonese or Sichuan food and then Mexican food.

Ok, just got an oceanview room at Bayside. Who wants to drink Sunday or Monday night? Or both? Any engine drop parties?

Porsche-O-Phile 09-18-2007 07:55 AM

Hmm. . . Wonder how much my wife would murder me if I told her, "hey, I'm gonna' swap in a 3.6 this weekend" for the 911 I just got. :)
