We've spent $4800 in the last 3 months with FedEx.
From our Account Rep: Shaun I understand your frustration and I apologize first and foremost for your billing issues. I am forwarding this to VOC (voice of customer) and to our market council. They will do a thorough investigation on your account. Also, if you can provide me with any specific tracking numbers/invoice numbers that would be great! Thanks! I cannot change the Fedex billing and accessorial charges but something I can do as a solution is up your discounts. I would like to put together new discounts to make up for the $2 - $4 charges. I will redo you HD, Ground and express discounts. I will have them out to you today, please sign and fax back to me. On another note, I can assure you that FedEx is not trying to be shady or scheming. |
Over the last 7 years, I have used FedEx, UPS, DHL & USPS. These are my experiences and YMMV.
UPS: Damaged a LOT of our packages. Finally quit using them for anything about 4 years ago. Fedex GROUND: Damaged a LOT of our packages. LOST one package valued at over $15k. After a week of me calling them and them not being able to find it, I told the hub manager that I was going to have to refer it to homeland security due to the package contents. Amazingly, he called me back 20 minutes later and had found the package. Fedex Express: Have damaged approximately 8 shipments over the last 4 years. Of those 8, they have paid only 1 damage claim. But overall, the service is good and deliveries on-time. DHL: They caused me some grief with my most valued customer and that was the end of them. USPS: Any documents and overnight letters are always sent by USPS. They are cheaper than the others and the price you pay at the counter is the price. No up-charges later. With FedEx, I have found that one of the best moves you can make is to be sure you KNOW your customer representative, and that he/she knows you. With all of them, the damaged goods policy is to deny the claim. They will find an excuse or reason, or just jerk you around until you give up. I used to do some B2B work with FedEx and discovered that they are "self insured". This gives them a much higher incentive to screw you over. And for anyone who does not know, when entering your package dimensions always enter the largest number first. It has to do with how they make their calculations for oversized packages, and entering this way gives a cheaper rate. IE: 17x17x60 costs more than 60x17x17. |
I recently used FedEx Passport to ship a car.
Pickup was a week later than estimated Tracking information was only sent once, when the job was booked No on-line tracking of shipment was offered Telephone reps, including managers, were not able to tell me when car would be picked up Emails requesting information was never returned Driver arrived at pickup location and was unable to approach due to size of rig, alternative arrangements took a week, you would think they would know where they could go and where they couldn't, after all, they are in the auto transport business Those are all FACTS. A FACT can never be libeous. One final FACT is that I will never use their services again for anything. |
John... I'm glad you posted your story about Passport. I had read some good stuff about them, and had one of their drivers tell me how careful they are, company line BS,... etc. But you are the first person to recount a first hand experience. I will definitely keep that in mind.

Well, after ups totally screwed me when they damaged a rare part and refused to pay, even though the repair was less than insured, I have used Fedex & fedex ground. I have had no problems, my stuff always gets there, and returns get to me, undamaged. ups sucks!!!
