Did I stick my foot in?

On another forum, and in another segment of this bbs, I posted news about pending changes to Carolina Motorsports Park in South Carolina.

The changes pertain to turns 12-14, which the track co-owner tells me that they have been getting complaints about. He says that the complaints are coming from mostly newer and less experienced drivers - that they feel those turns are "too technical".

In both forums, people chimed in to agree that the turns are too tight and ruin the "flow" of the track.

Personally, I take them as part of the challenge for that track. Every track is different. Different types of turns demand different skills, and IMO this is part of the point of racing - to challenge your skills.

On both forums, I made the comment that if you want fast, non-technical tracks, you should consider taking up oval racing (NASCAR). On this forum, the comment passed with no remarks.

On the other forum, though, the person who made the comment about the turns being too tight took my comment back extremely personally. He followed up with the following:

Quote:

You're allowed to have an opinion when you can beat me on any track in the SE in a similar car.
Quote:

The day you are allowed to inform me what I should or shouldn't do with my car and my career is the day you can step up to me as an equal on the track. (or down to me as you seem to imply) Until then, please keep your comments to yourself about such matters.
WTF??

Are most racers this thin skinned?

I don't know if I'm really looking for an answer here, though I know you guys will be happy to opine on the subject. Mostly, this is just really irritating me.

The internet is full of 12 year olds. Its one of the reasons I come to Pelican. Although occasionally things get sidetracked here, on the whole I find the conversation intelligent. Some other sites, I wouldn't be surprised if every poster is still in elementary school.

Well, this particular guy is a recent college graduate. He races a cobbled together first gen RX-7 with a ford 302 engine, in one of the NASA divisions. He thinks he's the most awesome racer since Shuie, and as seen in the quote above he thinks he has a shot at this as a "career".

Maybe he got his ass in a twist because I called his car "frankenstein"... but still, that's pretty weak.

I just don't get it. I suppose I should just shug it off and call it a night.

Here's his masterpiece:

And don't get me wrong, I'm not down on his car because it's not a Porsche. I was really just teasing him with my Frankenstein comment.

Oh! So That's how you become a fast racer! Have them change the track so it suits your car/driving style!

Yeah, right!

I have to echo this opinion. In the early days of my internet surfing I visited several forums but as time went on I realized that very few were more than a complete waste of time. I guess I had never realized there were so many 12 year olds with internet access.

Well, I went back and read the thread through a few more times and spoke to a couple of other guys on that forum. I should have just acted my age and walked away. Instead, after his comment about racing against him in a similar car, I quipped
Quote:

Pretty typical response from you, but why would I want to buy some broke-down POS just to race against you? If you want to call me out, you step up to my level.

But to beat me, you have to actually make it through the whole race.
The last line refers to the fact that in this season, he has had several DNFs to mechanical failure, then finally he put it into a wall at RA.

Anyway, I should have acted like an adult. I failed. :o :(

Yes you failed......... but it was fun wasn't it?

:D

I wouldn't worry about it. I find the people who boast the loudest are the ones who have the least to boast about.
