Mac and Pelican website

Okay, this is getting annoying.

I can use the bbs, but I cannot access the catalog or the tech articles linked to the bbs on pelican website. This is running safari 3.03 on a Mac book pro.
Same problem using opera or camino on the Mac.
However, from opera on my XP PC on the same wireless router, no problem.

Anyone else having this issue?

Aurel:

I'm also on a MBP running OS X 10.4.10 and Safari 3.0.3 (522.12.1) - I just hit a few tech articles without incidence, FWIW.

What's the error message when you try to access a tech article?

Best,

Kurt

The pages don`t load. No error message, it just starts loading and stops half way through. I can`t figure out why.

Post a couple of links that are not working for you. I'll try them and see if we can isolate the problem to your Mac.

Best,

Kurt

No problem at all. Try a PC...

Sorry but had to do it.

I'm on a MPB - no issues with Firefox here...

I just loaded OS 10.4.1 onto my Mac today.

Pelican access is fine with the following browsers:
Safari 2.04
Netscape 7.2
Firefox 2.0.07

I don't use IE.

No issues for me either.

You have the same issue with different browsers.

Create a new user account and see what happens.

If the problem goes away then repair permissions on your main account.

It does not seem to be something that would be caused by the OS but it's not impossible. Do you have any non standard plug ins running?

My Safari crashes on any of the forum features (ie search). Bugs, bugs everywhere.

Do you have a "Hosts" list? If so these areas may be blocked.

In Firefox one would right click on the link and manage the Host list from the drop down.

That issue has been discussed already. You need to update to safari 3.03 and those features will work.

Yes, Safari is very buggy. Use Firefox instead.

I have been experiencing the exact same problem as Aurel - forums work fine but can't access the catalog or tech section...pages simply won't load at all. I have been trying with both Firefox 2.0.0.9 and Safari 2.0.4 using OSX 10.4.10. However no issues w/ my Windows XP system on the same network.

I searched the forums and only this thread appears to match my particular issue...

Aurel, did you ever get this resolved?

Does anyone else have the solution?

No problems here either. Using Firefox/2.0.0.9

I have identified (though not solved) the problem as my wireless connection with Verizon FIOS. I took a trip to France last week with my laptop, and I had no problems connecting wirelessly with Safari to the catalog from my parents house. And back home, I still cannot connect to the catalog part of the website, though I can from the PC (also wireless). I still can`t figure out the fix to that problem.

I am reviving this thread because I still haven`t fixed the problem. I recently ordered parts from our host from my PC, and I cannot open the tracking update links on my mac either. I agree it could be a dns issue, but I switched to opendns and that did not fix the problem. I had comcast cable before and all worked fine, now I have verizon fios...it is not a browser issue, I tried them all. My system recently upgraded to OX 1.4.11, but the problem has persisted from the previous version. Any more ideas?

Firefox. Although the recent releases have slowed performance somewhat, it's still the best alternative. Safari is an uncharacteristic Apple failure, IMO.

Aurel 12-22-2007 09:25 AM

Nope, firefox does not solve my specific problem. It is not a browser issue.

techweenie 12-22-2007 09:41 AM

Sorry, I can't replicate the problem. I'm mystified.

I could be completely off-base here, but in my experience, problems like this can usually be blamed on fonts. Try removing all your non-standard fonts (those not installed by default) and try again. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've chased crashes and bugs on my Macs only to discover a corrupt font. Maybe worth a try?
